Hi guys,
Been browsing for a couple of nights and been really impressed with the level of knowledge on here. In particular Knievels stained wood cab, SpyStyles how to, and Phsycotechs jukebox/pinball machine. Anybody know of any good links for similar kinda things which may provide some inspiration?
I am looking to start my own cab in the next couple of weeks and have now got a basic idea of what im gonna do. My inspiration comes from playing Toaplan's 'Outzone' back in the early nineties, that game was so good I never forgot about it, and recently I have been playing it again after finally getting MAME to work on my PC. 1 thing led to another and I started to realise guys were building there own full size cabs and I obviously realised that I needed one of these things. Been buying up tools and supplies over the past few weeks and am gonna start drawing out my CP on my next day off (wed).
Also wondered if there were many UK guys on here, I am from Fort William in Scotland myself. (not that anything wrong with US guys of course)
Feel free to offer any advice or links.

Welcome to the board from a fellow Brit, there is a few of us floating around on here!
For inspiration you cant do much better than just trawl through the threads in Project Announcements (which no doubt you have been doing already)

Hi I'm newish here as well been reading the forums a while before I first posted I live in Stoke on Trent which most of you will probably know because of Wedgewood Pottery.
I got a jamma cab to start with added a PC and used a keyboard encoder because it was easy to setup just need to sort out now how to make it look better and see what things can be improved in the future.

Im on the Norfolk/Suffolk border building my 1st cab. Im already planning a bar top as my next project.

Hi DiGi, welcome to boyac.
A word of caution.... you know that building cabs never ends, either they never get finished, or horror of horrors they do. Then you have to build a cocktail or dedicated vertical or jukebox. and so it goes on. ;D
Yep the crack cocaine of hobbies and now you're hooked ;)

The saviour for me is i dont like internet buying so all the goodies over the pond i wont be buying yet ;D
And as a starting point i got the machine to a working mame cab quickly so it at least got started, origionally i thought the machine was coming with a game so that could have delayed things but because it didnt it was half gutted out and cleaned a little the first night my first purchase was a touchscreen for a jukebox but i didnt get a serial cable and th one i made didnt seem to work there was someone on here who said he might be able to help me out but not had a reply back yet.

Definately very addictive hobby, its when u see what u can have that is not available in the shops, or very, very expensive in the shops.
Personally I have a thing for music videos and when I saw Physcotechs contraption I immediately thought - Dedicated Music Video Jukebox type thing. I'm thinking 15" TFT, the whole thing will be as small as possible, which can plug in to any 'aux in', in any stereo. It would be so cool and something no-one else would have (certainly in Fort William anyway).
But enough of the dreaming, I still have to finish my MAME cab first..... the thing I am really dreading is, what if it turns out looking really amateurish? it could be quite embarrassing in the end, so I am really taking my time to getting everything right first time round.

Probably because a LOT of the links on the main site are dead now. Especially the links to other projects.

I too am from the UK, been wanting to start my own project. Due to Christmas and the awful weather and lighting conditions / dampness this time of the year it is not yet practical.
I find that the the projects in the forum are better for me ( dead links ) and the explaination and input from other members bring the projects to life more.

Welcome from another Brit! I'm from Folkestone in Kent. If you're building from scratch I highly recommend you download a free copy of sketchup (http://www.sketchup.com/). Even if you're not building from scratch, sketchup is still great for laying out your control panel in 3d to make sure everything fits etc.

Ahh a Brits unite thread!!! God save the queen and all that. Lol. Im from the East Midlands. Little warning for you. Arcade cabs should be classified "Class A". You can never have just one!
Shop around for your supplies I recommend screwfix and wickes for most everything building wise....just stay clear of B&Q.

I'm from Birmingham U.K. good to see there are a few more brits on here than i thought. I think the reason this hobby isn't as popular here is space constraints for cabs. Welcome and enjoy.

Well it seems my collection may be growing already originally me and a friend were going get some candy cabs off eBay the delivery price and conversion put me off a little (I'm tight at times ) ;D but he went ahead and i picked up the jamma locally but now hes decided not to do it and is planning on scrapping the cab after spending £150ish on it and ripping out most of the internals, but Ive said i will have it so have to see what happens its still got the touchscreen so this one may become the juke box and the other just a arcade although i think his screen was a bit burned although unnoticeable in games should be good all he asked for in return so far is a old CRT i have . the gf not pleased though >:D

I think the reason this hobby isn't as popular here is space constraints for cabs.
Yup I was waiting desperately to move last year so I had enough space to build and house my cab :cheers:

I am also new to the board and am overwhelmed by the amount of information - I am originally from Northern Ireland and now in the States and if it wasn't for our basement I don't think we would have had room for the uaii cab I just assembled, will post pics soon :)
