Title: 4:3 LCD screen sizes
Post by: BORIStheBLADE on January 17, 2008, 04:48:34 pm
So While I look on the internet at LCD's for my cab I can't seem to find a LCD bigger than 20" with 4:3 aspect ratio. WHAT GIVES?! I even called a company yesturday that makes custom LCD monitors and it would cost me thousands of dollars for something like a 24" LCD. I would like to maximize the space I have but this sucks.
I could fit a 26" crt, but depthwise my 20" crt is already pushing it.

I wanted a 4:3 LCD for a bartop and discovered the same thing as you. I ended up just going with a 19, which is large for a bartop but small for a standup.

Have you thought about buying a widescreen LCD TV that's bigger but then choosing the 4:3 aspect ratio on the remote?  Then the games would run in 4:3 mode.  You could then make a marquee that will crop out the sides.

Yup.. I went to a local store and checked a 26" LCD in 4:3 mode it produced a image that was 17x12 3/4
my 19" LCD is 15 x 12.  So close its not even worth the money.

So I am assuming then that you want to have it mounted horizontally?  The suggestion I made would only probably work for a vertical setup where space for the sides is bigger in that mounted position since it would be on the top and bottom, as opposed to the sides where room is limited.

Same thing here.  I have a 20" monitor at home I was thinking of using for my cab.  Measured the vertical and it is basically the same as a 26" LCD TV I have been testing with.

Has anyone done the measurements to see how wide you would need to go with a 16:9 TV to get roughly the same vertical as a 27" 4:3 TV?

I never thought about doing it that way. I think one would need to buy a larger LCD to do this making it not worth it.

Here is some more numbers. I have a 32" LCD in my bedroom and the measurements are 27.5 X 15.5.
At this rate to get more than 20" width we would need a huge screen.
My 48" in my living room is 23 X 42. At this rate its going to be huge. :laugh2:
