While I was laughing on the floor over the auto censor remarks...reading past posts comments are getting corrupted with references to george lucas and it's no longer funny.
What's next..."LOL", "ROFLMAO" or other internet slang...?
I'm all for keeping out the 1337. But do we need to reduce our freedoms?
What do others think? I'm speaking specifically about "Thanks" = t.h.x. and derivitaves of real live words that are just shorter. (Words should never include numbers though.)
Bring back the "Thanks" Man!!!

Or you could turn off the autocensor ...
EDIT: Go to your Profile under Look and Layout Preferences.

Or you could turn off the autocensor ...
[engage sarchasm]I guess I also care about what others see should I accidentally post an abbreviated word, like: NP, or the "aforementioned shortcut for thanks" (not that "NP" is censored...yet.) [/sarchasm]
OH. and I didn't know that the censor could be turned off so thank you. (But I think I'll spare myself. It's a necessary evil.) ;)

thx.

Lets put it this way, if you are in a serious conversation or are giving expert advice, it is best to leave the 1337 and overuse of slang to a minimum. If you are involved in a meaningless EE thread and everyone is screwing around, feel free to use every acronym you can possibly think of.
Oh, and byoac auto censor rules. every time I see ---meecrob---, I get a tear of pride at what I created. ;D

Quoted for repetition. And so I can point a finger and laugh. :laugh2:

thx.
Cool, thx Saint
As for the meecrob...??? It's just before my time. ::)

What sucks about the autofilter is that people like me who embrace profanity don't get to see the humorous words used to replace them.
-
hehe, I can't remember the thread, but someone was complaining about the insult "that is the name of a female sanitary product". People were getting pissed, and I was trying to inject some humor into the thread. I recommended that Meecrob be the new autocensor replacement for said word, and Saint made it happen.
If you don't know where Meecrob itself came from, I politely refer you to the sh*t episode of Southpark.

Turning the autocensor off in your profile turns a lot of them off... not all, but I only see a few of the replacements.

If a word gets censored and then therefore it is not seen by the average user then why is still being seen as a rule break? What's the point of censoring it? After it is censored it is no more harmful than saying "craphead" or something more mild then the actual word.
I seem to have gotten into trouble here with words that were never really seen on the board that were just censored.

If tommy breaks a rule in the woods, but no one is around to see it, did he still break the rule?

...someone's smokin' some serious herbage around here...

same thing when I see --missioncontrol--'s auto sensor

My current favorite would have to be --tomorrow is too many letters to type so instead I'll just say the day after today--
-
I swear constantly, both on this forum and in real life. If our autocensor just said --censored-- in place of evil words I'd have turned it off in a heartbeat. But I've never turned it off because I enjoy the replacements so much.

I say words of curse just for the fact that I want the censored things to show up. They are way better than what they replace.
