Title: Light Blue Buttons
Post by: ex_directory on January 13, 2008, 06:27:48 pm
Hi all, first post so go easy on me! I have built a cab (thanks to evryone I took ideas from on the board!), I am now putting my CP together.

I would like to source some light blue coloured buttons. I have found ball top joysticks that have a 'duck egg' blue replacement top which is great, but no buttons to match.

I have considered clear with led effect, but when the led's are off it will look white, not ideal.

Anyone know where I can source these (I am connecting to an I-pac)?

I dont know where you are located but you can get clear blue push buttons from arcadeshop.de

[This] (http://www.arcadeshop.de/Action-Buttons-Pushbutton-clear-blue_495.html?osCsid=4b0e44693478b30b36941a6607d0cde1) is the link to them.

You may also be able to purchase them from elsewhere, im sure someone will chime in.

To light them you will need to drill la hole in the bottom of them (5mm if you are using 5mm LEDs obv) and then you can push the LED into the hole.

To power them you can either use a wire from a PC PSU (either 5v or 12v with the correct resistors) or you can use a product like the LED Wiz (again using the correct resistor) although you can get LEDs that already have resistors wired to them for use with 5v or 12v.

The LEDs I use are 13000MCD 5mm blue superbrights, you can get them very cheaply from ebay. [These] (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blue-LED-Set-of-50-Super-Bright-5mm-13000mcd-NR-F-R_W0QQitemZ160197669616QQihZ006QQcategoryZ66948QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122) are the ones I use.

Check out the Sanwa blue buttons.  They might be close to what you're looking for.  Lizardlick has them for sale, I have them on my cab in fact.

And if you really want to go to town you can use my guide [HERE] (http://www.retroblast.com/Articles/DIY-LED-Joysticks.php) to light them.  ;)

AKK! i wish I had known of a place to get light blue ones! My color scheme would have been totally different! I was planning on a black cab with light blue top 3 buttons and dark blue bottom four buttons, but ultimarc only has darkish blue buttons, so I went with top 3 orange, bottom 3 red, and the 7th button blue to match the estick blue I ordered... Oh well, live and learn... I could always change out buttons...

For light blue (robin's egg ?) unlit buttons, you may be able to find some folks who stock replacements for Joust.

I just bought a load of light blue buttons from TheRealBobRoberts... but these are leaf buttons so you would need to get the switches and nuts as well. Here is a link to his button section of his listing:

Those Sanwa buttons are cool but remember these are a "snap in" type button that only work well with a metal control panel.

Hi all,
Sorry for delay in replying, been busy preping cab for vinyl.

Thanks Franco, but looking for light blue buttons when led is on or off ideally, but thanks for tip on joystick, may go for that, was thinking about the solid light blue ball replacement.

Kajok, my cp base is 3/4 inch mdf so those buttons are a no go unfortunately.

Hey Leedsfan, which ones did you buy exactly and how much was shipping to the uk?

Am thinking the below in white but then put a blue clear film in the top (i.e. normally you put 1play/2play clear film prints in) to make the button light blue. Anyone think this will work (and look ok)?

Oh and btw, I did find http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/parts/push_button/33mm_Round_Flat_Momentary_Contact_Push_Button_2292.html (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/parts/push_button/33mm_Round_Flat_Momentary_Contact_Push_Button_2292.html) but there is a minimum order of $200 USD, no illumination but at least it is light blue!

Anyone know if possible to source these from somewhere except coinopexpress?
