Title: Beat Detection Circuit
Post by: Xb0x3r on January 13, 2008, 03:20:39 pm
Hey everyone, does anyone know how to make a Beat Detection Circuit? What I want it to do is read the low Hz of the input, and output the pulses through and LED (for starters)

Thanks,

Xb0x3r ;D

Have you had a look at LuminAudio? Do a search on the forums, although it is software based.

Crude way would be to get a low pass filter and then detect the envelope of the audio signal on it.

Google for color organ schematics, just be aware that if it goes after the volume control then it will only work when you turn the control up loud. There are heaps of schematics out there since its a common thing that people want to DIY. There are a few ghetto ones on instructables, but I would suggest you avoid them like the plague.

I bet you could mod something like this (and its cheap!) http://www.xoxide.com/cocasoackit.html (http://www.xoxide.com/cocasoackit.html)

I know this thread is old, but I made one myself using just a couple of transistors and resistors, works great and uses LEDs to flash with the beat.  I can draw up a schematic if anyone is still interested.

Sure. I'm  up for a new circuit.  I'm not building a Jukebox just yet, but maybe something for the kid's room.

The Lumin Audio software solution sometimes leaves the LEDs flashing even though no sound is being outputed by the computer.    Also, when Lumin Audio is activated it eventually causes my computer to no longer respond for some reason.  I leave my jukebox computer on all the time and when I return the next day (or even in a few hours sometimes) then the computer does not respond and the mouse is ineffective.

As a result, a new beat detection mechanism would be nice.

kickercompkid_99... I am really interrested in your schematic.  ;)

I already sent you an email...

Cheers
