Title: am i the only one that liked Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions??
Post by: hulkster on January 13, 2008, 12:19:34 am
im watching revolutions right now and loving it.  my older brother loved it as well and he's usually a pretty harsh critic, so i guess that makes two people i know that liked revolutions...and reloaded.  one of my friends said he hated the 2nd and 3rd as well as others i know.  one of the complaints my friend had was that there wasnt enough cool stuff in the matrix itself like the first one.  i disagree, but anyway.....did everyone else hate the two movies?  yes the first and original matrix was the bomb and the best of the series, but i thought the other two were very good.  am i the only one here?

2nd one was my favorite of the series, followed closely by the first one.  I enjoyed the 3rd one but didn't like it as much as the other two.

Now I gotta go pull my DVDs and watch the whole thing all over again though. Thanks for blowing my weekend!  :P

2nd one was my favorite of the series

And the 2nd was by far the worst.

I remember getting several of my friends to stay up for a midnight showing of the second movie, and I also remember how pissed they all were for staying up that late to see such a horrible movie.  The original matrix is the only one of the trilogy in my dvd collection and I plan on keeping it that way.

Yep.....I agree with Shmokes on this one (dear lord  ;D ).  2nd was the crappiest of them all.....some neat ideas, but overall the movie was craptastic.

The first part was brilliant and the other parts didn't come close to it. Still, I though the second movie was enjoyable and even parts of the third movie were not that bad.

I liked the first, and the second got kinda out there, the thirde was really out there.. but hey, you got to love the fight scenes in all three of them. (Especially the one on top of the transfer trucks in all the heavy traffic. Cool effects there!)

I actually liked the 2nd one, but didn't enjoy the 3rd one so much. I really thought the whole driving/freeway/flying scene was incredible, even after seeing the special effects piece on how it was done. In the 3rd one, those walking and shooting machines reminded me so much of Mechwarriors, but with that many "squids" there's no way they had a chance.

It's just too easy for people to criticize the entire Matrix series of movies, but those movies brought to life all sorts of new movie technology that just hadn't been seen before.

Yes, yes you were.  For that matter, like some of the others, I didn't even think the 1st one was all that great.  See it was hearalded by critics and the general public alike because, both the critics and the general public are lame and about 10-15 years behind the times with people who actually enjoy cinema.  In other words, the "normals" probably did get a kick out of it, but let's face it, the people that hang around this board are way more hip than that.  To put it bluntly, we are more cultured (pop culture still counts as culture) and have better taste in films.

While all of hollywood was creaming it's pants at the "innovative art style and imaginative writing" I was sitting around yawning at the poorly executed hybrid of tron, terminator and ghost in a shell.  And of course people bashed me for that and then they later interview the Watowski (spelling?) Brothers and they basically say in a round about way "Oh yeah, we totally ripped off ghost in a shell, the look the style, parts of the plot and everything."

And of course since most of us have been watching anime (regularly, small blips like voltron don't count) since akira came out in the mid 90's nd it's been around 10 years, hollywood and the general public are finally catching up again.  The super hero movie is out, the anime to live action conversion is in.  In the next 3 years we will be "treated" to American, theatrical versions of:

Speed Racer
Battle of the Planets
Voltron
Dragon Ball Z

And these are the confirmed ones taht are already in production.  The following are rumored to be in the works:

Sailor Moon
Pokemon (Dear god why?)
Ghost in the Shell
Full Metal Alchemist
Eureka Seven
Ronin Warriors

Ugh... it's like the producers of the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie were given a free subscription to tokyopop.  Nothing artistic and good is safe in the world we live in anymore.  Producers have to ruin EVERYTHING.

I thought the first one was just "okay".  As a popcorn movie, it is entertaining.  But the dialog is ridiculous, Keanu Reeves can't act his way out of a wet paper bag and the story seems to be a little loose with it's own rules.

The two sequels were the Wackowski (sp? whatever) Brothers taking the whole story in the trilogy a little too seriously.  It was 90% uninteresting characters blabbering on about some nonsense while trying to sound "deep".   Sorry, the Oracle has always been a completely worthless character and whenever they stopped to visit her, you knew it was a good time to get popcorn.  And as cool as the fight sequences look, they end leaving you unfulfilled.   If you stopped and thought about it, they were ultimately pointless.  The agents won't die, so just Neo should've just run away from the get-go.

If you like it, that's cool.  They're not the worst movies by any means.  Just a big disappointment.

Interestingly enough, that whole thing may have just been a rumor.

After your post I did a search to see if I could find out exactly when the "change" took place and, along the way, found this:

I didn't have an idea what the heck any of you were talking about until I looked them up on Wikipedia.   :o  Shows you how out of the loop I am.

At least I found out the spelling: W-A-C-H-O-W-S-K-I

Really?  In recent pictures he definately looks a lot more feminin, but I guess thats how the rumor got started.

I liked them all to varying degrees.  I thought the first one was the best...the third was good and the 2nd was decent.  The fight sences were good to great as far as choreograhpy goes...kinda senseless (like when Neo fights the Oracle's bodyguard..."you never really know someone until you fight them."...<barf>!).  I did like the multiple Smith fight (although there was too much CGI in that fight.)

But shoot...I'd watch a bad movie just for good fight scenes or special effects.

Never actually saw what these guys looked like until I looked it up earlier today.  I could pretty much take or leave their films (including Matrix).  Told you, I'm out of the loop.

i wonder if by saying that Waterworld is also one of my favorite movies of all time (which it is) further demonstrates my knack for being easily entertained.   :dunno  i feel like chris on family guy when they throw some yarn at him and he falls down the floor giggling.  (it may not have been yarn, but i remember it being funny)

First one is great the first time you see it, pretty good the second time, and then a movie you put on to fall asleepy with after that. I've tried to go back and watch it again, but it is just too slow moving.

I loved the second one in the theater. Sure the storyline was weak, and the scenes in Zion sucked, but those big action sequences were the coolest thing I had ever seen at the time.

The third movie was just total crap. When we walked into the theater, I kept wondering why it was relegated to the smallest theater in the building even though it was still new. I found out soon enough. Absolutely awful movie through and through.

So many good things about the Matrix movies. For one, you could actually get into postulating all kinds of theories and the movies would support a lot of ideas, unlike most movies that either have way too many plot holes or ones that never even try to have believable plots and make fun of you if you tried (I'm looking at Grindhouse & Shoot Em Up).

*SPOILER*
For instance, at the end of the third movie, when Neo finally kills agent Smith, there are many good theories as to why Neo won at that point. Obviously, it appears we see the machines "power him up", but an even better postulate was my friend's idea that when Smith killed Neo, he destroyed his own purpose and thus allowed Neo to win (Smith had previously made a grandiose speech all about the importance of their purposes, his being to kill Neo).

Not to say there weren't oddities I found absurd, such as the fact that Neo could rip poles out of cement, but if a door was locked, they were all like "Oh noes! We have to find another way! I can't break a door!" And I'll agree that he did fly away way too much latter on, though I personally still liked the shift into a superhero movie even if most people didn't.

You know it's a movie that makes you think though when Neo gets to the infamous Lobby scene and I lean over to ask that if this world is a program, are the security team that are trying to stop Neo are a firewall or more of a proxy (only to hear the groans of everyone who makes no attempt to think during movies).

I also wish there had been a few small Bill and Ted jokes though, something like when they get in a phone booth, Neo winds his watch first, or there be a phone book with San Dimas written on it.

The first movie posed some very good thinking points. The second and third were more like "These people think we are geniuses! We can make up any ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- we want and they'll search out the hidden meaning and think we are even BIGGER geniuses. BRILLIANT!"

The same thing has happened to the TV show Lost. I totally don't buy the creators line that they are following a grand scheme.

Oh, and if you look at Grindhouse and Shoot 'em up the way you do, then you TOTALLY missed the whole point.  ;) :laugh2:
