Title: Windows 98 users. Please help!
Post by: tophatne1 on January 11, 2008, 08:14:25 pm
I have an older Dell that I want to run MAME on. I'd like to have a cool Front End as well. Can anyone suggest which version of MAME I should run and also a Front End that will work with it? I don't really want to use MAME32.

Here's the computer:

DELL Optiplex GX100
Running a Win98 2nd Edition
Intel Celeron Processor
191 MB RAM

It's not that amazing but it runs fast.

One last question... will ROMS that are updated for MAME 0.98 work with older versions of MAME?

THanks!

What speed is the processor on that machine running at??

I don't think that you need to downgrade below 0.98 that version should run all the classics on pretty much any machine. I have a P2 400 running 0.87 Mame and it handles the classic 80's stuff with no problem at all. It doesn't get used very often though, it's built into a bartop unit and I only built it because the computer came free of charge.

If I was to use MAME .87 would the roms that I have for Mame .98 work with it? Also what front end works on that bartop you built?
