Title: newby problems
Post by: jc1of2 on January 11, 2008, 01:35:41 pm
I have been given an old astynax cabinet that has a problem I can't figure out.  When the power is switched on the title screen is perfect.  When the game is started the characters are shown as diagonal lines.  The background seems to be fine most of the time and I can hear sound.  The game plays well except that the players and enemies are distorted.  I plan on getting a cap kit as soon as I can and using j-pac.  The cabinet does appear to be jamma.  This is my first attempt at anything like this and this forum has been a goldmine of information.  Thanks for the help.

You have a game board problem NOT a monitor problem.

So I can go ahead and order the j-pac.  Based on the screen do I need to get the caps?

Sorry, I was unclear.  I meant the monitor is fine for me to mame the cabinet.  I was unsure if it was the monitor or the game with the problem.  Now that I know the monitor is fine I will proceed to connect a pc to the jamma connection and work from there.  As for the caps I meant based on the pictures will changing the caps have any benefits.

From what we can see in the pictures.... the monitor is working fine.
It does not look like it needs a cap kit.

The graphics problem is purely a game pcb issue.

would suggest reseating and /or cleaning the pins of any socketed IC on game pcb. ( with power OFF )
clean pcb jamma connection and check ground connections..
