not the best idea but i didn't think i'd want a trackball but after much thought i decided i'd have to get one but i'd already stuck my cpo on as it was the adhesive type and not the paper with plexi over it so i set about put the trackball in without a mounting plate
first of all i cut the center circle out on the cpo with a craft knife and the mounting ring that i got with the trackball

then i used a 3"hole saw to cut it out

thankfully that went alright

then i tested out my mates router on a bit scrap mdf to see what size recess i'd need

then i made some brackets out of some metal that i'd got from work(used for metal stud partion walls)

then i had to make the cp box larger to accommodate the trackball it used to flat across the front but now it's angled the same as the cp

next up some translucent buttons with blue led's and can you get translucent balltops(with blue led's fitted) in the uk? and i need to get a 4 cluster blue led for the trackball as it's a bit dull

You didn't think you needed a trackball... but yet you used that CP overlay? :laugh2:

I'm actually gonna use the exact same Blue Lightning CP from Mamemarquees (just ordered it from them today) and I'm a bit worried about the cutting of the trackball hole. I'm gonna mount my artwork on aluminium sheet and intend to cut through that and the plexi cover together. I'm scared the artwork will tear at the edges or that the plexi will crack/break. Gonna test on some offcuts first but I cannot test the artwork... no offcuts from that.
Did you get your CP from Mamemarquees?

yeah i got it from mamemarquees thats why i got the adhesive one (it's really thick textured vinly stuff) i didn't fancy trying to cut the holes out of a sheet of plexi and a paper overlay good idea with the sheet of metal first ,post some picks when your done ;D

Well I think I'm gonna mount the CPO onto the aluminium panel first. Then place this with the pexi and sandwich them both between sheets of MDF. I'm not gonna cut the circle out first with a knife in case I screw up and cut "outside the line" if you see what I mean. I think if the layers are clamped firmly between sheets of MDF the cuts should come out clean. (I hope)
