Title: 1936 redemtion machine
Post by: danny_galaga on December 31, 2007, 09:00:33 pm

ok, so a few of us met up in sydney and had a great time. as well as severely testing bones cab we went to the blue mountains for some scenery. there we found a WORKING redemption machine from 1936! there is nothing on the net about it so i created one of my quick and dirty web pages with shmokes favourite background colours to document this rare beast. it was built in france by a company called bonzin and sopransi in 1936

http://dannygalaga.com/bonzin.html

oh, we also found two cocktails. a hankin with frogger and possibly a taito with amigo (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6884) on it.

I would think spending $0.20 in 1936 for one piece of candy would be way too much to spend at that time.

hehe. back then it would have been one PENNY, which was roughly the size of the modern 20c piece. not many people would be carrying around pre-decimal currency in australia anymore  ;)

Did Australia go through a depression like what Europe and the U.S. experienced?

The U.S. hit the depression in 1929 and didn't economically improve until WWII started. Spending twenty U.S. cents in 1936 for candy in the U.S. would've been ---smurfing--- insane, but was Australia economically better off at that time?

australia, like every developed nation went through the depression. luckily for the rural folk, at the very same time we had a rabbit plague so at least no one starved  ;)

I really should pay more attention to the meetup threads. Since I'm in Sydney during the week and Blue Mountains most weekends this could have been fun. Oh well. Perhaps I'll keep my eyes peeled in future.

If anyone here is ever in RI in the spring/summer, it is absolutely worth the trip to the Spring Lake Arcade.  It is a whole arcade full of games like this operating at their original prices.  Plus there's a nice little beach and snack bar there.  It actually has official museum status from the state, I think.

cane toads? no. but the poison on their backs is halucinogenic so if you lick them you go on a trip...

I saw one show where some guys had a huge problem with cane toads in their yard... so they build a ground level catapult.  Every time a few toads would hop onto it these guys would fling them 100 yards.  It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

it was quite an impromptu meet. but since your in oz, you should join

http://www.aussiearcade.com.au/

there are always meets announced there. and you get more time to know if you can make it or not. so far ive had plenty of time to not make it to two brisbane meets  ;D third time lucky im hoping...
