Ugh. I feel like I've tried everything. My xbox 360 keeps dopping the connection to xbox live and the media connection. I have given it a static IP,
tried forwarding ports, putting in in the DMZ, and enabling UPnP. When I do the connection tests, it tells me that my NAT is Open (which is good, obviously). That is only the case, however, when it is actually able to complete the test: often times, it will drop during the test and the 'network adapter' field says disconnected.
Upon powering up the console, it will sign in to xbox live, but when I'm just browsing the marketplace, etc it will disconnect. This also happens when I'm streaming music, pictures, and movies: it will be playing them, then suddenly stop.
The 360 is connected with a 50 ft ethernet cord (could this be the problem? is it related to the network adapter thing above?) to my Netgear WGR614 v5 router with 1.07_1.06 firmware (said to xbox live compatible). My PC has sharing enabled through the Zune software and WMP 11.
BTW I know that MS is having problems with their servers right now, but I just tested media connection and that's still not working(and it's internal).
Please help!
P.S. My gamertag is sphetr2. I have yet to get a chance to get gold but I will very soon.
Thanks!

Yeah, it is going to be hard to diagnose any 360 networking issues as long as Live is so flaky.

I've heard everything from the network was hacked and some sissy-boy is wreaking havoc, to the fact that more X-Box 360's were recently sold than MS could support at this moment in time.

That explains the problems (the same) I've been having for the past week then. Was starting to think it was just my console. Glad I checked here.

Right, but Live is making the whole system act weird. For example. At the dashboard I get the toast that says I am connected and how many friends are online. However, the dashboard shows I need to connect, same with the guide blade. It won't let me connect. As soon as I start a game the guide will then show the friends list. But then a whole bunch of toasts come up saying I connected, I have friends, etc. That being the case the xbox might be running it's network refresh code and that's why locally you are getting disconnected.
Once Live is working see if you still have problems with your media connection. It shouldn't affect it but the dashboard seems to be confused between it being online and not online. So you might be hitting code that was never meant to run in those situations.

Not sure if there are still problems or not... one moment I'm connected and fine, next moment I'm having trouble connecting certain things... downloaded demo's for Bejeweled 2 and a billiards game for the wife earlier today. Good fun, but demo's suck in that they're so limited on how long you play.
