Title: Can't get MaLa plugin for U360s working
Post by: LeedsFan on December 30, 2007, 05:02:34 pm
I'm really struggling with this guys. I downloaded the plugin and followed Fatfingers instructions.... until I got to this line in his instruction text:

"Edit your Path environment variable to contain the directory that your UltraMapper software was installed in."

Sorry if this is PC n00bishness... but that might as well be written in Greek to me.  :P I don't have any idea what to do.  :dunno

This tripped a few people up (including me).  Basically go to Start-->Control Panel-->System
Click on the ADVANCED tab and then, on the bottom, choose ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES.

On the bottom, scroll down until you see the system variable "PATH".  Highlight it (single click) and hit EDIT.

Now, separating with a semicolon, add the full path that leads to your UltraMapper software (usually C:\Program Files\UltraMap).   My "Path Variable" looks like this when all is said and done:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\UltraMap

Thanks for that Dave!  I managed to get the plugin to show in the "Event Plugins" box within Mala. But it's still not working.  :hissy:

I've checked and double checked my edited Path and it's all correct. Looks very similar to yours and I used a semi-colon. The directory for the plugin itself is correct and I have all the maps loaded in the right place.

I can go directly into the Ultramap software and set a 4-way map... but if I try to choose an 8-way game from MaLa afterwards it doesn't change at all... still stuck in 4-way.

Take a look at this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=74248.0 (skip the posts in the middle about the programming of the plugin, etc.).

In the meantime, make a file called umapper.log in your MALA directory and it'll give you some information on how your mapping plugging is working (or not working).  Sometimes it's as simple as a file-name mismatch (especially with the 4-way diagonal maps).

How do I make a .log file?  :dunno

I think this maybe too complicated for me.  :-\

YES!!!   I solved it!!!  :applaud:

I was being a retard and didn't see that I had the maps folder placed incorrectly in MaLa. I had it placed in the Mala/Plugins folder instead of just being in the Mala root folder itself.  :banghead:

God what a retard I am... but I'm a retard that won't give in.  :laugh2:

Only other problem I had was with the Q-Bert map not loading... but that was just the plugin looking for a different spelling of the Ultramap 45 degree map. Simple edit of the Ultramap file name solved that.  :D

So it's all working now!  Many thanks again Dave... I deffo would never have worked out that "Path Variable" bollocks.   :notworthy:

Glad you got it working.   ;D

And if you need it for future reference, to make the logfile, just right-click, select NEW--> TXT.File and rename it umapper.log (it'll tell you something about changing the extension, just say "yes, you're sure".

Have fun!

I'm suffering a similar problem and I am confused.

The plugin shows up the Mala options.

My paths are:

C:\mala  (for Mala itself obviously)
C:\mala\plugins\ultrastickmapplugin.mplugin
C:\mala\maps\ (all of the .ugc files are in here including a qbert.ugc)

Does all of this look correct?  Should it be working in this situation?

Do .um files go in the same place as the ugc files?

my path variable is set to:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\UltraMap ;C:\mala\ultramap

I'm so close to finishing this up.  Can somebody help out?

Thanks!

Not according to this:
Quote
The qbert.txt file must be placed in the Maps folder under the Mala tree and be renamed to qbert.ugc.  The 4-Way, 45 Degree Angle.txt file must be placed in the Maps folder under the Ultramap tree and be renamed to 4-Way, 45 Degree Angle.um.

The Q*Bert .txt file was a file I had placed in a post because it was left out of the package.  if you already have a qbert.um file, then don't worry about it.

Can you email me that file?

Again, here is the link that I posted above.  It has the qbert txt file attached to the post of August 25, 2007 at 6:27 pm.  Everything you need to get this working has already been posted.   I don't have U360s yet, but I used the search function to find the answers to the questions you are asking.

OK I will tell you exactly how mine is set up and you just follow. Your MaLa paths are exactly the same as mine. They are all correct. All your .ugc files are in the correct place.

However all your .um files should be in your  C:\Program Files\Ultramap\maps  folder. Ultramap installs itself normally in this way unless you opt to change it.

Also your path variable has "C:\Mala\Ultramap" on the end. I don't have this at all. I just have "C:\Program Files\Ultramap".

It all works fine for me so if you copy my setup it should work for you too.
