Title: Should I RETURN my Turbo Twist 2? (FIXED)
Post by: Onyx_PghPA on December 28, 2007, 08:52:16 pm
Hi all,

Any chance the above subject header will get a response?  I posted in another thread, but have yet to hear of a response, but since the other thread is pretty old, thought I'd make another attempt.

My control panel is finished, works perfectly in MAME except for the following:

I'm having trouble with the TT2.  Using Tempest as an example, there is a great deal of backspin, to the point where even selecting the level at the beginning of the game is impossible.  Here's what I've tried so far:

* Set Windows XP mouse scroll setting to "1 line at a time"
* Analog Controls: set Dial sensitivity to 20%, 6% and finally 1%
* Dial Analog: set to Mouse 4 Z
* Dial Dec and Dial Inc are set to "None"

I'm using the most recent version of MAME (v0.122).

I've also tried other games that use the spinner and suffer the same issue of backspin.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How does the spinner react in windows?

Hmmm... that happened to me at first but then I adjusted the analog sensitivity in the MAME options menu.  I am using MAME ver. 1.19.

I just checked my Tempest settings within the game itself (by pressing tab) and they are set to:
-  Dial Digital Speed <20>
-  Dial Reverse <OFF>
-  Dial Sensitivity 20%

I don't have anything set to dial 2 since I only have one TT2 spinner installed.

Seems to work for me.  If I spin it SUPER fast, there is some backspin, but I have to whip it hard to get it to do that.  Overall though, if I give it a light spin it generally works fine.  I could have lowered the percentage, but then when I did it felt strange while playing.,

If all else fails... have you e-mailed Randy T at GGG to see what he says?  It may well be possible (highly unlikely) that you have a defective unit.  Also, how about trying a different version of MAME (earlier version).

Hope this advice helped a bit.

Try moving the TT2 to either the X or the Y axis and report back.

I seem to remember someone having a similar issue when attached to USB, but solved it when they used a PS2 connection instead.

How does the spinner react in windows?

Just fine.  Since it's on the Z axis and share the features of the mouse scroll wheel, I'm able to move Windows scroll bars up and down quite well.

Randy,

I moved it to the X axis, went into MAME and made the changes there and now it works perfectly.  Played a full game of Tempest (and remembered just how bad I am at it)!  :-)

Thanks for your help!
