Title: daphne downloader
Post by: polaris on December 28, 2007, 05:25:18 pm
im just trying to get my head around this. got it all going and then clicked on dragons lair which started a torrent of 3 or so gig. anyone know if this is just for dragons lair or all laserdisc games.
i have a dragons lair dvd( not the 20th edition one) but have no idea if its gonna work after the day or so the torrent will take. the prompt said i need a dvd but im unsure if the one i have has the 'key'.
dont know wether to persist with the torrent or what.
how else would i use this dvd , would i copy to a hard drive, im confused.
 any help mucho appreciated.
cheers

ok i think i may have found out the answers but any personal experiences welcome, particularly on the games not on the 20th dvd , are they just not in copyright and downloadable for all?

it seems any official dvd is acceptable for use for the four supported games, look at this link for information on that (http://www.daphne-emu.com/dvd_scan.php)

Hey bud, just letting you know, that the 3GB file isn't just one game... It's all 4 games that require the dvd for verification...

Dragon's Lair
Dragon's Lair 2
Space Ace
Thayer's Quest

You only have to download them once, and once you verify them with your original dvds, you'll never have to do it again...

The 20th Anniversary DVD-Rom, and the DVD-Video discs both work to "decrypt" the files... Which are the actual laserdisc rip, and are far superior to the DVDs in look, and play... If you need any help getting it set up, contact me via email... Daphne is just intimidating... But is actually very simple to set up...

Another way, would be DVD2Daph, but trust me when I say, you'll want the files that Daphne is downloading... They're SOOOOO worth the wait...

Good Luck To You!

No problem bud... Glad I could help...

Yes, you verify them individually... It just dowloads them all at once, so it's a one time thing, instead of downloading them once for every game...

When you select a game from the left window, it'll ask you for the corosponding DVD... It will verify the disc, then decrypt the files (per game you selected)... Once that particular game is done, it won't ask for another DVD unless it's one that you haven't Verified before...

Hope that makes sense!

I've read the full thread on this and your response is by far the clearest, most straightforward one I know.

ive just tried playing dragons lair II, it has prompts on the screen saying ,left, sword, etc when you need to hit a button.
is this just at the start like a training level, or do i have to disable it

retrometro ~ Thanks for the props! I try to explain it in terms that would be easy for me to understand... I figure, if I can understand it, any one can!  :laugh2:

polaris ~ Ummm I'm not really sure why DLII is doing that... I know that DLII was set up differently, where as, the actual game didn't use dipswitches to chage certain features, it was all software based... Which is why it took the guys over at Daphne so long to support it...

To access this menu, you need to hit "CTRL and 9" together, and it takes you to the game settings... Which allow you to change certain functions in the game... IE how many coins per credit, button test, sound test etc... I'll have a look at it right now, and see if I can get mine to do the same thing, and try to resolve the issue...

Expect a response in a few minutes...

rofl

Yea, sad thing, is she's after you through the whole first level... haha I can tell you tho, the fist 3 moves are LEFT, LEFT, LEFT!

Ok I checked mine, and it didn't do it...

My Advice... Go adead when the game boots up, and is in the Attract Mode, hit ALT + 9 together to enter the setup mode... Hit Space to go to the next screen... When you get to the screen where it shows you every button you push hit 1 & 2 at the same time... Go through all of the screens until it takes you back to the attract mode... Some screens will require you to hit Space, a couple will require you to hit 1 & 2 at the same time... It'll tell you which ones to press... When you get to the "Monitor Test" hit 1 & 2 together... It'll skip that one, as it usually hangs up there any way... It'll take you back to the game...

Then, credit up, and see if it still does it...

I'll hang around for your reply...
