Title: Can I swap parts out of an X-Arcade Solo for Happs parts?
Post by: The_Roker on May 14, 2003, 12:47:27 am
Are there compatability problems?

I was thinking of starting out slow, and then move onto the Happs' butttons or Joysticks.

I know what 80% of you guys are going to say:  Why don't you build one for the amount of money you'll end up spending?

Why?  Because switching over to Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, and PS2 will be so effortless that it'll be worth the money.

I lack time (job) and resources (tools), so I figure I'd buy an X-Arcade Solo and then mod it somewhere down the line with a different joystick and colored buttons.

You can indeed, everything is pretty much a standard, at least button wise. You may have to do a little cutting if you want to put other types of joysticks in it, other than happ supers but im not sure, can some one clerify?

It's kind of an expensive route. I say go with a Sony Dualshock and then use adaptors for less than the X-arcade adaptors. You'll get every system that way and end up paying less.

I can't stand the X-arcade solo's button layout also. It sucks!

Their buttons and joystick are clones of the Happ/Lorenzo so the holes line up correctlyl.

Sony Dual Shock isn't going to help when I need a joystick. I don't know how to build one from the controller brains, so I'm not going to get into that.  And like I said, I have neither the time, nor the resources.

The buttons and joystick are clones of Happs/Lorenzo, so this means I can swap out the joystick if it ticks me off?  I might want to swap out the joystick with a harder spring joystick.

I don't mind the button layout, although I would get rid of one button so it resembles the Neo Geo layout better.

what I meant was to hack the dualshock in as the encoder board. It gives you ten buttons and the d-pad (joystick) it's more than enough buttons. You can also hack in the r3 l3 if you are in need of more buttons.

This one controller encoder give you multi-system compatibility through the use of adaptors.

I hate the fact that X-arcade put buttons where you rest your hand. It's annoying. You could always use a button plug from happ.

I don't get it, so can I swap out the joystick or are there demension problems?

I know what you mean about the layout conflicting with your hand.  Like I said it should be like this

x

as opposed to this:

x x
   ^That button shouldn't be there

I will more than likely plug it then.

I'm very confident that you can dirrect swap the sticks out.
If not then you can always just rotate the stick 90 degrees and mount it the other way with screws. There is no need for bolts actually. I assume that arcades use bolts because changing out the sticks all the time would wear the hole out.

thanks for the replies

I'm still stuck between this and the Mas Systems Joystick.

If you are just using the case, then get a Redoctane. For $30, plus shipping, you can't go wrong.

Look on my site for a bunch that I've converted.
