Title: please help! - jerky mame with arcadevga - SOLVED!
Post by: Jimbo on December 24, 2007, 04:53:50 pm
I've tried quite a few games now (mame 0.116) and I'm getting a small jump/jerk/flicker every 1 or 2 seconds.

I've uploaded a short video of it here (http://www.leesti.com/rastan1.mp4). After the first wave of 2 or 3 baddies if you look at the bottom half of the screen (in the rocks) you can see what I mean (every 1 or 2 seconds).

My specs are: -

Asus P5B Motherboard
Intel Core2Duo 2.4ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
ArcadeVGA2 PCI-E
SB-Audigy Sound Card.
WinXP SP2

Even with the jerking I've not noticed any stuttering of sound.

I'm using the following settings in mame 0.116: -

hwstretch 0
video ddraw
waitvsync 0
syncrefresh 1
triplebuffer 1
switchres 1

tried setting priority to 1 and sleep to 0, and also tried waitvsync 1 but it has no effect on the jittering...

Any ideas? Its a fresh clean system (just installed). I've tried stopping various non-essential services and systray apps but nothing seems to have any effect! Please help!

Thanks!

Hi northerngames...

What exactly do you mean?  I'm running the games at their native resolutions (320 x 240 @ 60 Hz in the case of Rastan).  I'm using the AVGA card connected to an LCD currently, but will move to the arcade monitor in the cab once I've set up everything.  Am I missing something?

Thanks

can a lcd even support a res size that small?

that is why a arcae moniotr is good becuase it can display low res images that vga and such cannot.

fixed it.

turns out the juddering was caused by me using a DVI to VGA adaptor when testing the AVGA card on my PC...  when I plug the VGA cable direct from card to arcade monitor its fine. :)
