Title: Upgrading MAme from .110 to latest version
Post by: rdowdy95 on December 23, 2007, 01:16:04 pm
Hey guys I am wanting to upgrade my MAME emulator.  I currently have .110.  I am wondering I use MAMEwah as well, but could I just copy my nvram files to the new mame, and would it keep all of my settings, like buttons I have changed and so forth?  Or will I need to reset and redo everything?  Also for Mamewah would I have to change it much?

Nvram files are hit and miss; miss if the driver had changes in memory emulation of that game.

Cfg files changed between 0.110 and 0.122 at least once (0.118 IIRC).  I think it only effects some keys on the keyboard and maybe mouse inputs.  In addition, cfg files can "miss" if the game's input ports emulation was changed.

So it depends on the game, and what you remapped to.  To be honest, upgrading that many versions, I'd guess ~25-50% of the nvrams probably won't work, and ~25-50% will look like they work but won't work correctly.

OTOH, if you remapped with a ctrlr file, you could do a simple find&replace of the dozen keys that changed and it should work in the new mame.  (I'll go into details if you used ctrlr files and need help.)

Thanks for the reply man.  I prolly wouldn't worry about it then.  How about MameWah.  You think that would be all good.  working with a new version of mame?  I am thinking it would because all the settings would be the same.  Anyways thanks for the feedback.
