Title: Will degaussing or adjusting fix this?
Post by: hsstie on December 19, 2007, 12:25:11 am
Here is some pics from my pac man cab. I swear it looked normal when i bought it a few days ago, Now its home it looks like this. The right side is discolored and distorted. I left it on for a few hours to warm up some fiquiring that might help it but it didn't.

try adjusting horizontal hold for the distortion.the discolouration is a gaussing problem but first try rotating or moving the cab to see if it goes, the degauss circuit works from cold and if its not powerful enough to sort the problem you may need to make a manual degauss.

ok, thx didnt know there were adjusting controls there. The horizontal hold does adjust the screen, but for some odd reason, all of the adjusting of the screen when i use horizontal hold is on the right ( which is where I need it ). Anyway, Those controls are quite sensitive, no matter how much i try....the best i can get it is like the first screen. Admittedly , that is better than what it was like the second screen, but not good enuf. The discoloration doesnt bother me nearly as much as the distorted picture. Is there anything else easy i could try or should i just replace the monitor?

thx for the help.

it would be helpful to know the make/model of monitor .

the culprit is likely a faulty capacitor on b+ filtering for the h osc  . likely 33-100uF @ 16-25v
dirty potentiometers can cause the ctls to be overly "sensitive" .
degaussing the crt may remove discoloration ( which,  i do not see in ur pics.. ?? )

Well you have to look close at the middle of the right side of the screen. The discoloration doesnt bother me as much as the distorted picture. I've looked all over the chassis and tube. It really surprises me how they can make a chassis with no labels at all, not even something scribbled on it. The only label on the whole chasis is serial # 90062193.

On the tube it says : Samsung 51ggb95x-tc, ( no K 020055007 ). I know that doesnt help much. I guess its time to replace this one and i could have the old one fixed at a later time. Looking at the chassis board now i do see some burned spots ( and yes some are just above the horizontal hold ). I have a monitor same size from a street fighter cab ( wells gardner 19k4901 ). The red wire with a cup on the tube has come off the tube though. I have had that sitting around for a few months. Didnt know if i could use this or if i need another one. ( I have found one that is supposed to be a direct replacement for 200 bucks shipped, is that a good price?).

Looking at the chassis that is in the pac cab now it has 2 sets of wires connected to it. Is this just standard connections or do they vary from game to game? One seems to be a match but i dont know of the one that plugs up to the chassis board.
