Can anyone verify if Mala is working and completly stable on windows XP 64 bit. I need to make sure it works before upgrading.
-
I don't know. My vote is for loadman to go ahead and upgrade to a C2D, overclock it to 4 ghz, installing 64 bit O/S, and testing Mala to the hilt. Loadman, can you have this done by the end of the year? :applaud:

Mate, would make MaLa run under QNX before I did that. :laugh2:

There is got to be someone on the forums that can confirm or deny functionality of mala with wondows xp 64. Can anyone please let me know.

Apparenty HeadKaze has got it running

Mala works fine, however when it launches a 64-bit Mame Binary, it chokes Mame into submission.
This can be subverted for the time being by deleting the Keyhook.dll file, as its use is the culprit.
Further effects of removing this file are unknown to me.

If you are not suning windows 98/Me then there should be no effects. The next version of MaLa won't even load that dll if it detects the OS isn't 98 or ME.

Yep Keyhook.dll isn't needed at all on XP 64, MaLa runs fine without it.

What are the advantages to running XP in 64-bit?
I'm building a new system from scratch and I don't know if I should get XP 32-bit, or XP 64-bit.
Thanks.

wow....old thread.
The 64 bit version of MAME will run some games faster than the 32 bit version (with the same processor).
This may be the difference in the game running fast enough to be playable on your system or not.
Of course, you need a 64 bit OS to run the 64 bit version of MAME.
If you have the option, go with XP64.
The only downside is if you have ancient accessories that 64 bit drivers don't exist for.

Thanks for responding even though this thread is as old as dirt. I still think it's relevant to newcomers and numbskulls.
See I didn't know the 64-bit version could ever be faster in any situation. I figured, twice as many bits must take twice as long to process, given the same processor. My low end Pentium only has 2 cores so I figured that would create a bit-bottleneck. This logic had me set on 32-bit until I read in another thread that the OS can only access 1/2 of this 8G Ram at 32bit.
With Headkaze being the only person in the known universe running Mala in XP64, you can understand why I'm confused.
Will Mala one day support a 64-bit OS? Do I want a 64-bit OS in order to emulate 8-bit games. (Mid 80's ROMs only here.) :dunno Enquiring minds have no fookeen idea. So thank you.

1. Make sure you old Pentium is a 64 bit processor!
2. I run XP64 on my driving cab. The reason I think most people use XP32 is that it's a lot easier to find.
3. Regular Mala runs just fine on a 64-bit OS. No reason to make a 64-bit version.
4. Depends on the speed of your processor, but it's usually those of us running 3D games looking for a boost. XP32 should be fine.

Cool. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll stick with XP32 unless I have a problem.
