Title: High Lip Trackball Mount Question
Post by: hog1991 on May 12, 2003, 11:08:52 pm
Okay,

I have ordered the Happs high lip trackball to mount on 5/8 MDF with 1/8 Lexan.

I "think" I need to get teh mounting kit and then just recess it in to the wood the same thickness as the plate itself, then the "lip" will be flush with the lexan.

Is this assumption correct??  Can someone validate what I am doing?

Also, I think I accidentally (ok screwed up) ordered the High-ball mounting kit from happs ($24) vs the standard.  What is the difference?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

highball mounting plate has a larger hole because the ball itself sits higher, and comes through to a larger diameter point on the ball.

I have a highball with the mounting plate from happs, the plate is about 1/16" thick and has a lip of about 1/16". I recessed the mounting plate to be flush with the surface of the wood, tacked formica over the whole thing up to the lip which is convieniently the same thickness. very simple to do too.

if I understand what I've read correctly the highlip is an additional 1/8" higher than the standard, which would be convienient, bucause you could laminate over and conceal the plate, then add 1/8" plexi or lexan of your choice and it should come flush to the top of the lip.

You're right.  Just don't use the 1/8" thick spacer that will come with the high lip; your 1/8" lexan will take its place.

About a quarter of an inch larger center hole, and an inch longer on each side.  Also, about half the cost. :-\  http://happcontrols.com/trackballs/55110100m.htm

Thanks all.  For anyone who care, I emailed happs and told them what I did.

They corrected the order and sent it that day!  Saved me $14.

Gotta give em kudos where it is due . . .
