Title: If I were to sell a generic Galaga cocktail...
Post by: knave on December 17, 2007, 02:22:56 pm
What would be a good starting point for a generic galaga coctail in fair condition.

Some screen burn, light scratches and a few small warps/dings on the tmolding...

Colors are good, controlls are ok...coin switches work. Woodgrain, no art.

Any ideas...What would you pay...(assuming you wanted one?)

You say generic...you mean bootleg?

Do you have pictures?

I paid $50 for an essentially gutted cocktail cab.  I got the coin door, and control panels, but I had to replace all the artwork and top glass.  My machine had no motherboard, monitor or power supply.   I did get a wiring harness out of it, which I think I sold on ebay for at least $20.

heck, here's some pics of it:

So, $50+used monitor+whatever boards are going for on ebay is a good starting point.

I mean generic in that it's not an original "namco" cocktail.  It's a little fatter and has glass inlaid over the screen.  Also it has a non midway coindoor. Upon my visual inspection the board looks to be authentic but ??? (it's the most bootleged board out there) I'm only going by the pictures in the schematic.  Also the trademark Namco displays in the Title screen. The monitor has good color but minor burn from double dragon.  controls are ok...(work fine but show wear)

I do feel that a working machine is worth more than the sum of its parts but how much...that is the question...

If I kept it I might pop the monitor and PS in my Ms pac cab (it's painted black anyway) Install a jamma harness and use an adapter for the Galaga until I get a Ms pac board.  I could then Mame the cocktail with a nice TV I just was given...But I really don't have room for it.  Thus I would want to sell it but not for BYOAC bargain prices.

I think I'm looking for the a reasonable price someone who is not a BYOAC member would pay if they just like Galaga and want a cocktail table in their home.

I'll post some picts when get a chance.  It sure is fun to play though...But I'm finding I can play Galaxian for a longer period of time.  Still looking for a pacman.

Does it by any chance look like this:

If so, you have a Stern cocktail cabinet.

That would have been cool, but no. It is a bit wider as is the CP and the top is all woodgrane save where the glass is inlaid for the screen.

I think it looks like a kit.

Wonder why so many people part out working machines  ... unless the opposite is actually true ... I know that's not the answer that you want to hear, but my feeling is that, in the current climate, the parts are worth more than their sum.

And no point in asking for a price without pics.

Point taken. And while I don't want to hear that I can accept it.  It's a shame really...But I understand. I could really use all of the parts myself. (I just don't want to part it out.)

I'll try to get off my lazy keister and take a few pictures...
