I am in the middle of trying to get a simple (but nice) front end going on my vertical mame cabinet. I am using an ArcadeVGA2 with a 13" G07 monitor (its a cabaret style cab). I tried Mamewah and gave up because it kept locking up my system. I then looked at Mala and it seems perfect. My only problem is that it does not look so good on my monitor (bit fuzzy and jumpy like the sync is a bit off). I can get Mame looking perfect with the following command from Ultimarc's suggestion:
Mame -video ddraw -nohwstretch -switchres [rom]
I was trying to see how I could make Mala use the same video commands. I turned off Direct3d. I've tried various modes and configurations but nothing seems quite right. I've tried to read all I can but I don't seen any sort of tricks for my setup. Is there something in the windows setup or Mala config that would be similar to the mame directives?
Any suggestions on tweaks/args to make Mala work better in a native arcade resolution? I am not looking for something smooth and fancy, just something that looks nice and clear (and maybe blocky?). Also any suggestions on simple vertical layouts? I am using the default now. I just need the title and maybe a marquee picture.

Ok, here is an easier question...
How would I get Mala to run in non-interlaced mode using an ArcadeVGA2?

MaLa is a GDI application, so it doesn't need nor use Directdraw / Direct3D to do what it does. Someone with more knowledge on this please correct me!!
I take it Windows itself doesn't exhibit this jumpiness? Under MaLa's display options (right click » Options » GUI » Display) do you have an appropriate resolution picked for both your monitor, and the layout you're using? (if you're using the default "Space Invaders overlay" one, you should have no problems I think). Try forcing MaLa to run in a display resolution you know works.

Talking to Andy@Ultimarc. He said to run it at 640x288 non-interlaced in Windows. Then I found that the author of Mala says he is running it at 368x240. That worked for me. I don't know if there are any other modes though. Something a bit higher would be nice, but not essential.
