Title: Side Art stickers in the UK
Post by: DJS1234 on December 10, 2007, 10:36:59 am
Hi there,

Does anyone know a retailer in the UK who sells cabinet side-art stickers, just looking to add some cool artwork to the cabinet I've just got, Doesn't have to be an exact fit to the whole of the side of the cabinet.

Any recomendations?

Cheers
Dan

Personally I wouldn't get it done by anyone other than www.mamemarquees.com , having had some stuff from them in the past.  The quality is great, much better than the few UK companies I have tried.  Shipping costs are very reasonable too.

Actually, I've just ordered my custom sideart from them  ;D

Scott at MameMarquees is excellent. I can also personally vouch for him. There is another guy here that does good artwork too... Emdkay. I hear great things about both suppliers but Scott is the guy I ordered from when I did my cab. You can't go wrong with either.

YES! Same answer as the other two guys! MameMarquees.  They're not in the UK, but quite frankly I don't see why people on this side of the pond keep asking questions like, "is there somewhere in the UK I can order from".  It really makes no difference where you order from. The Royal Mail (for Royal Mail read rip off merchants), charge more to ship something inside the UK than the US Postal Service do to ship stuff over the pond to us.

This is true...when I got my marquee & control panel shipped from MameMarquees it cost $13.  That's about 6 quid  :)

Got a lot of artwork to print out, CP/Kick Plate/Panels etc. and was considering mamemarquees. Together they dont equal more than a sheet of A0 but I cant find any relevant info on mame marquees as to pricing for non standard sizes or the quality of finishes. For example my marquee is no bigger than A4 im not paying $39 for that if I can go down the road and see the quality before I pay and get a laminated print for a £5. In no sense am I trying to bash mamemarquees as all I hear on the boards are good things but a little more info would be nice  :'(

The quality from MameMarquees is as close to perfect as you're going to get anywhere.

The answer to your question is to mail Scott at MameMarquees and explain what you just explained here and ask him to quote you for it. $39 US is about £18 UK for perfect qualty. Any laminated print you get locally in the UK will not even come close to what you get from Scott. If you're not prepared to pay £18 for your Marquee then that's really not going to do the finished quality of your cabinet any good.

It gets worse. If customs examine your package then the Royal Mail slaps on an enormous and totally arbitrary handling charge that is often far greater than the money you have to pay to customs. And there's not a damn thing you can do about it. As far as I'm concerned that's a breach of contract because the cost of postage is supposed to be agreed in advance. I made a formal complaint about it once but predictably I got nowhere.

A Marquee is printed material!! It doesn't attract either VAT OR Import Duty and as long as Scott marks it as printed material you won't get charged anything at all even if they do examine it.

That's interesting...didn't know that.

Yeah! It's because for once at least, our dear Government has deemed that printed material is free of VAT... I think they were thinking more of books and education when they did it. But at the end of the day a Marquee is printed material, and that's all that the law specifies. So consequently no VAT or Import Duty.
