Are any of the common cabs 25" wide?
I built my first cab a couple years ago and was considering building a budget cab for my son's fraternity (so I didn't want anything too good that may get abused a little).
I was looking at a gutted Defender cab, but didn't get a measurement on it. How big is the monitor opening?
I have a donor 25" TV that measures about 24 1/2", but I don't know what cabs would work.

I think a Nintendo Widebody is 25.5" wide.

I know that my mameroom cab could fit a 25" TV. And that the plans were modifiable to fit a TV up to 31". The plans are cheap and easy to follow, I reccomend them if you decide against gutting a cab.

I have a Midway blitz cabinet and that would fit nicely. Inside width is ~25 1/4". That is a pretty common cabinet and was used for blitz, nba jam, and the mortal kombat series. If you are up for some additional work you could probably decase that tv and use the stock monitor mounts. I was able to squeeze a 27" tv in mine with a little "trimming" to the tv case. It also has the advantage of having a detachable control panel box so its easy to replace/modify.

I also went with the Mameroom cabinet plans and paid a few bucks extra for the templates. All the appropriate cutouts have dashed-lines on them, indicating where to cut for monitor widths of 25", 27" or 29". It was "virtually" idiot-proof and greatly expedited the construction process.

my Pengo cab is 24" wide inside, Dedicated NeoGeo 4 slot is 23 3/4" insdie and the Dedicated MKII is 25 1/4". I have a 27" monitor in the Pengo (no case/frame) and both the NG and MK have 25" monitors in them.

I'm putting this together to donate to a Fraternity, so a couple guidelines are: minimal money & time. I don't want to build a cab (been there, done that, not this project).
So an MKII, a midway Blitz, and Nintendo widebody are Greater than 25".
Hmmmm, those sound like newer cabs, ie: harder to find used & cheap.
Out of curiosity, what is the opening on a Defender cab?

Just make this as water tight as possible. Use plexi to protect the tv especially and make sure liquids can't spill and sink into the cabinet. Don't want a beer soaked computer.
Also, reinforce the cab with screws. Trust me, we had an old pole position in our house that I only saw working a few times before it was relegated to the dumpster.

Dynamo 25" monitor cabs have a CP that's 25" wide I think it's HS-5??? I also have a Dynamo Z-back cab that's that wide. So they are out there.
