Title: Donkey Kong Issue
Post by: itobandito on December 06, 2007, 01:22:12 pm
Hey Guys,
I bought a Donkey Kong Cab to restore I got it fairly cheap beause it was not working.  I cleaned it up and all then tried plugging it in to see what the problem was.  As soon as I plug it in I get this loud hum noise out of the speaker and the video on the monitor is all scrambled.  Do you think this is a PCB issue?  I am not handy with soldering and what not on boards so I was just going to get a working used PCB to swap the other board with.  Do you think this is the correct action???

Initially it sounds like a pcb issue to me.
I'd carefully try re-seating any ribbon cables and socketed chips on the boardset.

always a good idea to clean the ribbon connections .
"tarn-x" does a good job of removing grime from ic pins .
be careful when removing /inserting socketed ic's. pins can become fragile w/age...
u may have faulty 'lytics in the pwr sup as well ...

swapping the pcb w/known working unit may verify the fault .

Posting pics of the problem always helps you get better assistance.

If it has the original Sanyo 20EZ monitor in it, then the sound pcb is on-board the monitor, there is cap kit for the sound board and the monitor pcbs available from Bob Roberts. (http://www.therealbobroberts.net/caps.html).

Cap kits have been know to fix some video issues so it's a good place to start since cap-kits are no-brainers anyway....any monitor that old needs one.

After that...check out this DK repair log for some good info on pcb board issues:
