Just thought I would share this with everyone.
Wal Mart has the Torpedo Digital Projector on clearance for $75. Resolution is only 960 by 240, but $75 and $.97 shipping it is a great price for a toy. I am sure that playing games on the projector will be fun.

I feel very cautious about this. I'm sure there's a reason it's only $75. If you're going to get a projector you may as well do it properly.
Just think of all the cliches. Won't somebody please think of the cliches.....
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- You get what you pay for.
- Anything worth doing, is worth doing well.
- A projector in the lounge room is worth two in the garage.
........ no wait, scratch that last one.
-
The only reason I would be interested is to try and use it for the projected marquee header. I wonder if it can be modded with a better light source?

led would be an idea, a brighter bulb would be a problem due to increased heat its likely.
id jump on one for £40 if they did them in the uk

I guess I didn't make it clear. This is an inexpensive projector that uses a $10 bulb. It is not a High Definition projector. However, for my daughter and her friends to play with, for using in the garage for neighborhood movie night, etc. it is perfect.
It has recieved decent reviews online for what it is.
I have a nice DLP projector that is 2500 Lumens and the stupid bulb lasts about 1000 hours and cost almost $500.
Your mileage may vary, but $75 is nothing for a toy like this.

what do you mean...?
from the description...
'Turn any room into a professional-style home theater or a giant game room!'
professional-style for only seventy-five bucks...!
-
Wow, I think this is great for an idea I have. Thanks Zelony, a great buy for pocket change.
-
Gizmodo did a review of this projector here (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/buyer-beware/worlds-crappiest-projector-reviewed-327587.php). It looks like a giant P.O.S. So be careful if you buy it and don't expect too much.
-
that review gizmodo did was really funny. I cant believe they actually used the title "Worlds crappiest projector reviewed"
lmao.
-
It's from Walmart...so you'll probably get AIDS or something.
-
I ordered one as a "Toy" for my daughter. I will let you know if it as bad as they say. Either way, it was only $75.
-
You know there was a time at Walmart when "Made in America" really meant something.
Now it seems the only phrase they are interested in is "Cheap in America".
Sad, very sad. Sam is turning in his grave.
-
The pathetically sad thing is that if there was a store that advertised their products were ALL made in America, I'd buy from that store even if it meant me walking out the door with a 10-20% higher bill.
I spend more at the mom-n-pop convenience store across from the Jacksons corporate store because I believe in "mom-n-pop"... I'd be HAPPY to cough up a few extra bucks to shop at an "ALL AMERICAN" store for sure.
Walmart was almost there at one time...then Sam died and the store went to hell.
-
The problem with that concept is that it wouldn't be 10-20%... it would be 100-200%. I go way out of my way to shop at the local independent stores in my town but damn if it doesn't get more difficult every year. Short hours, low selections, teenage employees that won't do more than ring you up and toss your change onto the counter. It's hard to keep shopping at a little hardware store that rarely has all 5 items you need that day when there is a Lowe's 10 minutes away.

True...but I'd rather support a store that sold "Made in America", not in China, regardless of who sells it. People will have jobs either way, we just need to promote factory jobs to Americans now.

How'd I stumble into P'nR? :o

I was getting ready to respond, then realized the same thing.

"THEY TOOK YER JOB!"

When did discussing MADE IN AMERICA become something political? I doubt Democrats or Republicans are going to bicker over MADE IN AMERICA?!? It has nothing to do with politics.
...and I doubt buying stuff MADE IN AMERICA is a religious experience...
Sheesh...
:dizzy:

You know anybody that aspires to have a factory job?
Didn't think so.
Depends on what they pay.
I'd happily stand on a manufacturing line if the pay was right.

At the Aluminum plant I worked at, the broom pushers were paid $16 an hour, with a huge benefits package...and the bitched about it!

Me too. That's also why the Made In America goods cost twice as much.

But are usually made twice a good!

But are usually made twice a good!
I wish that were still true. I really do. It's just not anymore.

Wonder what kind of pay and benefits a Chinese factory worker gets?
(We know the quality of most of the products.)

Depends on the industry for sure...but there are MANY American Made items that are of much higher quality than Chinese/Japanese/Taiwanese/Indian/Mexican made stuff...

You can get them shipped to the UK from ebay ... however, they are £100+
I'd love to hear back from someone who's bought one ...
-
Jeez where was all this interest in a low cost projector when I was trying to sell my unfinished project projector? ;D
I really need to finish that damn thing...

I am not sure how this thread turned into a debate about American versus Import goods, but it is amusing.
That being said, I will never by another GM product. My Chevy SSR is the poorest excuse of engineering and quality control I have ever seen. My wife's new Infiniti QX56 is the epitome of engineering and quality, although, technically the Inifiniti is made in America, so there goes that argument. hehe

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
who's gonna be the first to turn this thing into a projector marquee ? :)
Might I suggest using wax paper as the material.... unless you want to buy some Stewart Warner type material :)

Funny, my wife suggested the same thing. She thought it would be cool if the Marquee would change when you changed games. I thought it would be cool to play episodes of Futurama in the Marquee, since my Showcase cabinet is a Futurama themed arcade.
I will give it a try when I get mine.
-
I got the projector today. It is very dim, OK in a completely dark room, but not for a normal room. But I was OK with that for the $75 I paid for it. But then it died on me. I was showing it to my daughter and the screen got all garbled. Never worked again. I am off to return it to Wal Mart.
Oh well, it was worth a shot.
-
Sooo, who's going to buy 5 of these and turn his gameroom into a virtual reality cave?
