Title: Emulating Neogeo on mame
Post by: my58vw on December 01, 2007, 04:12:09 pm
Hello all,

I am considering building a "neogeo" bartop running mame32 0.120. I am looking for a quiet processor that will run the neogeo roms (read KOF/PuzzleBobble/SNK/MetalSlug) at 60 FPS. I found the new gOS developer kit MB/Processor kits that they sell locally and they seem like a good deal (about 60 dollars). They are all running a integrated 1.5GHz VIA processor with onboard video. I am thinking about pushing it through a 15 inch crt at 640x480. Any ideas if this combo will work for the above games?

Thanks as always!

If it's going to be a neogeo only machine, I would consider running alternative emulators like FinalBurn Alpha, or Nebula. They both run at 60fps on my 400mhz Celeron. Those VIA processors aren't as powerful as say a pentium or AMD at that same speed.

gOS is a customized Ubuntu linux.  You would be better off with XP for Mame32 or other NeoGeo emulators.  Don't get hung up on the gOS development board as there are alot of AMD and Intel based all in one boards available for only a few dollars more but with much more performance.

For example this MB CPU combo with about 3x the performance.

One thing I really like about Nebula is that it will let you emulate a 6-slot motherboard.
