Hello from Maine,
A friend of mine was asking if I could get Pop n' Music cabinet plans. Do we have that? Or bigs pics of the cabinet?
If I had a straight on pic of the front, and a straight on pic of the side, and knew the height, I could put a 1" grid over it and make a rough plan.

I've always wanted to try this game out ever since I saw a speed video with this. Spent weeks on Konami's Japanese website trying to figure out which PnM was featured in the video. I even eyed the PnM buttons on Happs to see if I could build my own CP for MAME.
I can't find a single arcade in my range that sports one of these cabs. I would be interested in measurements myself.

My friend has built the controller, I will ask him if he still has the plans for it. It looks pretty simple to build:

As for the game, my friend intends to use a PS2 with the PS2 version of the game, that will make for an easy build.

That is the tutorial I followed to build my ASC controller.
Since it's in Dutch, i'll tell you the measurements of my own controller:
75 cm in lenght (29,5 inch)
30 cm in wide (11,8 inch)
13 cm in height (5,1 inch)
14,3 cm between the buttons (5,6 inch)
The only thing I did wrong with my ASC controller is the space between the upper and lower row of buttons.
With my controller there is no space between them, and on the arcade there is space between them (Have to search the internet for the exact space)

What a great game BTW. I'm about half done building my controller but unfortunately, now that it's functional, it may never be finished.

The correct button is a Sanwa OBSA-100UMQ. The Happ buttons are now extremely close (the old giant Happ domed pushbuttons were pretty off), so it may be worth just getting those unless you're a hardcore player (like I am). There's no sense in emulating this in MAME; just run the PS2 versions. I don't believe MAME emulates the new Viper based versions (anything newer than 8), and the old GX based stuff is really bad. Apparently the newest version now runs on the Taito PC system.
As far as cabinet dimensions, it's pretty much a standard upright cabinet (though these are not common in Japan outside of pnm). The control panel is way lower than you'll want it unless you're unusually short as it's designed for Japanese players who tend to be shorter than most Americans. I've not found it particularly sensible to want a cabinet other than for collectable reasons: I just play with a Ransai on a keyboard stand, using my MK2 for display and audio (the audio is not stock).
I'm also not convinced it's worth it to build your own. Desktop Arcade (and possibly Ransai, if he's still doing it) will build a nice one for you for pretty much the cost of the buttons and wood in small quantity. The quality is extremely good from either maker. I didn't like the controller hack (had some issues with bounce), so I built my own IO board, but otherwise I don't think there's any real reason to build your own. Same goes for IIDX ASCs.
Now, if you want to talk IIDX, or DDR/PIU, then I'll entertain actual cabinets :)

I can dig it, but my friend really wants to build a replica cabinet. So the cabinet plans, or straight-on cabinet pics (so I can make plans), would be great.

A'ight... So here's where I am on my P'nM controller project.
In the first picture you'll probably notice that the front edge of the controller isn't straight. The second picture you'll notice that I'm in the process of rounding the front edge. Why it isn't straight is because I was using a circular saw because I didn't, and still don't, have access to a table saw.

Obviously I improvised a little with the shape including the slope and the rounded front end. I hacked an official PSONE dual-shock for the brains and it's currently hot glued to the inside of the controller until I find some standoffs or something to make it more permanent.
