Title: ACT-Labs GLP Shifter
Post by: shmokes on May 09, 2003, 10:43:39 pm
My GLP shifter arrived from ACT-labs today to compliment my Logitech MOMO Force wheel.  I've got to say that this shifter is impressive.  The first game I tried it with was 4x4 EVO.  I immediately decided that I had wasted my money.  Then I realized that 4x4 EVO just plain sucks regardless of how you shift gears.  I fired up Need For Speed 5 and it was seriously twice as fun with the shifter.  I can't wait for Colin McRae 3 to be released next month.

I highly recommend these if you like racing games.  It would also work well for High/Low shift games like Spy Hunter using gears 3 and 4 (they can be mapped to keyboard keys).  Lots of fun.

Can all the gears be mapped to keyboard keys.. or just 3 & 4 ?

I will.  I haven't mounted it yet.  I'm in the slow process of building my first cab so it'll be a while.  I'll definitely post pics.  It'll be a while, though.  I'm not much of a woodworker.

Yes, all gears can be mapped to keys so it will work at least somewhat with every game.  I played one game that had no direct support where there was just an upshift and downshift.  I mapped it so gear 3 was up and gear 4 was down and whenever I shifted I would just shift and then pull the stick back to nuetral.  It worked pretty well.

 Thanks shmokes,

Actually... there are a few mame games that use quite a number of gears.... so this would make an ideal setup.  Ill have to look into getting one of these soon.
