I have no idea what your talking about, but I'm wondering if Guus is pronounced similar to goose.  Interesting name regardless.

Who else? By the way, it's not pronounced as "goose". There is no equivalent in the English language. It's phonetically written //y//

i know how to pronounce it (",) the nearest we might know in english is the moroccan 'cous-cous'

Actually, his name doesn't sound like cous-cous, but indeed that's how english speakers tend to pronounce it.

:edit: I created a pronunciation with the RealSpeak Laura 22Hz dutch voice. Sounds pretty accurate: GuusHiddink.wav (http://arcade.laweb.nl/BYOAC/GuusHiddink.wav)

:edit2: GuusGeluk.wav (http://arcade.laweb.nl/BYOAC/GuusGeluk.wav) and MarcoVanBasten.wav (http://arcade.laweb.nl/BYOAC/MarcoVanBasten.wav)

:edit3: OK I'm done pronouncing :P  There is an online demo of the software on the Nuance realspeak website (http://www.nuance.com/realspeak/demo/) (free registration required)

Yeah and Guus Hiddink is sometimes also called "Guus Geluk", which is the name for the always lucky cousin of Donald Duck here in Holland. (If Wikipedia is right his name is Gladstone Gander in English.)
He managed to get Zouth-Korea to a 4th place in the World Championships and got Australia to the World Championships. Now he managed to get the (louzy) Russian team into the end tournament of the European Championship. Again (also) with a lot of luck.

Well I think England's team isn't the best because of there are too many foreign players needed to keep the Premier League to it's high standards.

On the other hand, The Dutch team sucks because almost all of them play abroad.....it' no team. And Van Basten keeps and keeps switching players and tactics. He was probably one of the best players ever, but I don't admire him as a coach/trainer. OK they've reached the end tournament, but I wonder if they survive the first round....

It was an exciting match to watch.   I had a feeling going into the game that England's fate would be decided by Croatia - whether they were there to win, or practice and let them through to the next round.  I'm glad they went in to win.  Good fast paced attacking football for most of the game.  It's also nice at work because all the poms were very cocky yesterday, not so much today!

It was unlucky for England ,
But lets not forget poor Scotland ,they beat France home & away and still go out
Still Scotland had a great campain and we have no complaints ,bring on the World Cup  :laugh2: :laugh2:

Something I always wondered: Why is there no Great Britain team instead of England, Scotland, Wales ?
These are not real separate "countries" are they ?

(I hope not to insult anybody here, but I've always wondered about this...)

you forgot Ulster :badmood:
The U.K in essence is different countries, its just always been united under a monarch.
Scotland has an independant legal system and its own banking system,Wales has it own unique language,Ulster has some very unique institutions.
I like the fact we have four seperate identities and if we had a G.B team it would almost certainly be all english players.

we do have gb teams for some sports, the home teams in footy and rugby are too established to change now, and it gives for competition between us.
in the rugby six nations, previously the five nations , england and scotland have their own unique competition for the calcutta cup, and the rivalry between the home teams is massive.

BTW cockney boy, did you know scottish moolah is not legal tender but is just accepted as so.

EDIT spellin
