Title: What was that 3d top down shooter...?
Post by: Frostillicus on May 09, 2003, 12:07:37 pm
Someone mentioned it awhile ago - it's top down like 1942, fully 3d shooter, and had some cool music (sounded almost classical).  but it was all alien ships. I have no idea what the name or website is...anyone?  I think it was part of an old thread of 'other PC games that are fun in a cab' or something.   ???

thanks in advance if anyone remembers....

wow.... there are a lot of them....

any special weapons ?? any other clues ??

you're saying top down like 1942... but 3d ??...
(I think there is some conflicts here.... cos top down indicates its 2d...)

not to pick on you.... just want to be clear...

is the graphics like 3d ??...

like Vapor Trail / Raiden ?? is that kind of 3d ??...

do you remember if its in mame ??

zero gunner 2
ikaruga(gotta love this game ;D)
giga wing 2

Top-down doesn't necessarily indicate 2D.  It simply indicates, well, a top-down perspective.  Take a look at the real-time strategy genre.  That said, I have no idea what game Frosty's talking about.

That description is way too vague :P

darnnit - i thought someone might remember it - it's not a console port, arcade port, mame game, etc.  it's some freeware/shareware game someone talked about once and I have no idea what it's called.   I think the ship is brownish red - the same kind of strikers III action with shots going everywhere.  I thought someone might especially remember the music, it wasn't techno at all - just a slow catchy melody.  It contrasted with gameplay, which I thought was interesting.

I didn't think you had a copy of Ikaruga! I love that game! I was playing it like 5 minutes ago. (Don't forget Mars Matrix and Giga Wing 1 They arn't really 3d, but top down shooters.) Zero Gunner 2 is good aswell, but it is too short. It's a crime Ikaruga is so hard to get  :'( that also lead to mass pirateing of that AWESOME game  >:(  (that and the fact that it is only like 18 MB!) :-X

Ikaruga isn't hard to get.  It was just remade for the Gamecube.  You can order it from Amazon.com or EBworld.com if you felt so inclined.

bleh...dc is dead so whatever you got no money then download it !
I tried supporting DC as much as possible though(atleast I tried from my side).I bought 20 original dc games and still have every single of them !  :)
BUT now its okay if you download a game or 2..whatever !  :P
Importing would suck bad though..first the dc imported version cost like $100 then you have to either mod your system or use gameshark cd to play the import.
Or just buy it for gamecube !  :)

I sort of agree, but don't say that here! That is that theft of intellectual property they was talken bout.

Yeah, Dreamcast is dead, but Treasure isn't.  They are just a small always barely hanging on software house that focuses on making great software rather than things like rushed software with a movie or comic book license slapped on it.

Those aren't it, but they are definitely cool, Mking has some good stuff.

I finally found it in the archives:  posted by lilwolf many moons ago http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=2374 (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=2374)  (also the bikini fighting thread)

After doing quite a few searches, I found this site to have the best type of shooters:

Game systems are never dead.  Never say that.  We all thought that about the TG16 years ago, but a new CD game was released a few months ago.  Japanese Hucard converters are also still being made.  Systems are only dead to those who can't find what's new about them :)

Agreed! But the DC em/homebrew scene I loved so much is becoming Xbox emu/homebrew.
