Title: great deal on USB steering wheel.
Post by: betacrash on March 18, 2002, 07:23:55 am
hey! i found a good deal on some USB steering wheels.  I just picked one up at ComputerFest in dayton Ohio for 14.00. It's USB and it works great. I was originally a hotwheels steering wheel that they distributed with the hotwheels computers, but hotwheels stopped that stuff and liquidated everything in the computer area. A lot of dealers at the shows had them. All the dealers are required to pop off the hotwheels logo plate at the center of the wheel, no biggie, ill just put a MAME logo or something. Im gonna make a whole new control panel for my cab and mount two of these on permanently. I'm 99% sure that it was made by the same co. that made the nascar wheels. the wheel is blue but it is made of the same type of real thick rubber. Not force feedback but it has a good resistance. Worth checking out. do a search on ebay for "usb steering" later! -betacrash

Hi,

I have a steering wheel that looks EXACTLY like this one, made by CH Products. It is great for PC driving games. But it does NOT work well in MAME. MAME driving games uses the spinner driver. The steering wheel only  appears as a joystick to the PC. So, you won't get any better performance from this than you would if you played with a joystick.

You can get a much better, and more arcade like steering wheel off ebay sometimes (usuaully only $20 or so). When you spin them, they keep going and going and going. The one pictured here, turns a half turn then stops (joystick left, joystick right).

Don't get me wrong, I love this wheel for PC games. Just not for Mame.

Speaking of steering wheels, I've been waiting for a nice pre-built steering wheel panal for MAME for a LONGGGG time. If anyone sees any on ebay please let me know. I'd love to get one with pedals, buttons on the wheels (HAPPS style), etc.
