Title: Positional gun...how many games and how to interface?
Post by: AE35 on November 15, 2007, 03:26:39 pm

I'm thinking about getting a T2 gun!

So, I wanted to know how many emulated(!) games there are? of course T2, but would Op Wolf
work, even though it's a lightgun-game?

..and, can I interface with an APAC or the like?

Thanks  :)

Nicholas

The T2 gun is just an analog stick in the shape of a gun, any game will work with it that lets you play with a joystick.

Lots.  All lightgun games* and positional gun games will work.  Others here have done this with good results, but I don't remember who.
Yes.
Yes.

* Feel will be different (especially offscreen reload & holding gun) but the T2 gun will work.

I don't think Operation wolf is a light gun. I'm pretty sure that's a positional gun too.

but indeed, what u_rebelscum  said.

Absolutely correct.... Op Wolf is a positional gun.

actually... :D
Operation Wolf was a light gun game.  I found out the hard way.. I order a gun from Ebay and sure enough it has optics.  You can tell when you play in Mame because the screen flashes white.  Positional guns dont need this because well.. they dont need to "see" the screen.  Next time you see an Operation Wolf try placing your hand infront of the barrel.. it wont work :)  Operation Thunderbolt OTOH was positional..  I've actually got a positional gun I was going to sell soon.  Its from a Namco game.. Steel Gunners or one of those.. can't remember..

Thanks!

Can you give me a list of positional-gun games?

With a mounted T2 gun can you aim at the edges of the screen or does the T2 movement restrict the player to aiming left-center, center and right-center only?   Might affect how quick you can shoot at targets if you must wait until they move towards the center more before you can aim at them correctly.

Now that's weird!!! I've got an Operation Wolf upright, sitting right next to me at the moment. And it's deffinately got POT based positional guns on it. This is just plain strange.

Maybe it was made in different ways in different locations... who knows.

Are you sure that was an opwolf light gun, that you got from ebay? I have played on Operation Wolf a lot and (like Fozzies) that was a positional gun game.

in mame you can play all gun games with both a positional or a light gun. in mame32 I can just click on the "light gun" category and get all gun games.

I have a similar question and think it relates to this thread....

If I have a mame PC with just positional gun games in it and I have an hdmi video card can I hook up my PROJECTOR to the video card and then have a jumbo screen to play positional gun games? (ca I set the ranges for a screen that big and get the movement with the guns to align/ work) ??????

Thinking of buying usb positional guns from ALIExpress and make a shooter cabinet but display it on a projector screen...???? Thoughts?

1. The pedestal where you mount the guns will have to be far enough back so the gun's X-axis and Y-axis range of motion covers the projected screen area.

2. You will need to calibrate the guns at the location/distance/angle where you place the gun pedestal and projector relative to the projected screen surface.

To avoid having to recalibrate every time you move the pedestal/projector, either firmly mount the pedestal/projector in a fixed location or use folding arms or markings on the floor to ensure the pedestal/projector is always in the exact same position where you calibrated the guns.
