Title: I'm too young and handsome to die
Post by: jrmitch on November 15, 2007, 02:15:35 am
So I bought myself the Betson Multisync today:

http://www.betson.com/products/IMP-44-4070-RT (http://www.betson.com/products/IMP-44-4070-RT)

Eventually I'll have to take it out of the box and soon after that, mount it in the cabinet.  It's contained in a metal chassis .  Will I be able to handle the chassis without fear of killing myself?

I don't plan on touching anything on the circuit board or rear of the tube.

Would wearing rubber gloves be a good idea?

I love arcades, but I think I like this living thing as well.

Thanks!
Jeff

don't worry,
as long as you are careful how you handle the monitor whilst moving it,paying particular attention to the tube neck, you won't have any problems.
the voltages on monitors are only dangerous when power is applied and its like anything in life you just need a bit of common sense(i.e you would not put your hand in a food blender when its running to clean it)
just always make sure you have room to work and a sturdy table near the cab to place the monitor on if you need to keep moving it out the cab.
only apply the voltage and signal when you have double checked everything is installed correctly and safe.
the voltage you worried about is the eht, unless you pull the anode cap off the tube whilst voltage is applied then you have nothing to worry about

Common sense is key. I always worry more about damaging the monitor by dropping it or throwing out my back than actually shocking myself.

You shouldn't have bought it in the first place, you are in lethal danger now !!! Leave box closed, put my adress on it and sent it. I know how to handle it safely.

Yes you should be careful, butthe hype of cautioning for monitors is getting out of hand. Common sense is your best friend and reading and following the precautions.

You can handle that monitor by the metal cage. Put it in, connect it and never touch the inside....presto :)

I have plenty of that to go around  ;)

If you're in the market for a monitor, Betson just knocked $100 off of their list price.  I was also able to save on shipping since I live near one of their warehouses.  Food for thought!

Thanks for the tip, but since I'm in Europe.....Neither is really doable for me. I'll just stick with trying to repair the oldies and if that fails simply replace the monitor with a nice TV.
