They couldn't sell them at Target so now they are trying to sell them for 50% off at Big Lots.

I wonder where the point is where these become a good deal.

I'd pass on them at $50.

i had wondered what happened to those things. its like they came around then poofed for awhile. the monitor is probrobly half the cost of what they are trying to get for these things. i dont think they will be around for much longer.

I remember someone here propped one up on a custom stand and painted it months ago. it wasnt that bad actually. i wouldnt buy one. but it wasnt bad looking. better then the sticker horror fest they got going on right now.

Everything about that cabinet is evil.  I played one that was on display last year.  Everything was made on the cheap.  The buttons and joystick were awful, and the cabinet itself was made of the same stuff you put on the back of entertainment centers - just a grade above cardboard.

Ugly!!

I'd take one for free...stick it in the corner and tell the kids that is THEIR OWN arcade cabinet...

Or you could buy it,  strip out all the bad gear and replace it with good stuff...oh wait...might as well start from scratch then.

Yeah I played one too.  There is no point in even putting in better controls.  It was just plain awful.

I played it at Value City a few times. The only redeeming quality it had was that Sinistar was semi-playable. I actually beat the first level! :applaud:

On that note, why is it that in mame, the ship always moves. Why can't you park like in asteroids?

Wasn't it Retroblast that "upgraded" this thing with a base extension and the proper joysticks & buttons?

Published on retroblast, but don't think Kev actually did it.

Here is a link to the mod. They put about $30 worth of quality controls in it and now the cabinet is worth 30 bucks.  :applaud:

They do not even have a monitor.   It is a cheap 14 inch TV which you don't even get the remote for unless you ---smurfette--- about it to the manufacturer.

These have been on sale for $199 or even $99 at the end of the season.

I don't know...is paying $50 or even $99 for something to play with that bad?  I've seen the write-up where one of these was upgraded.  I can see where it has it's place.  That said I'm not running to big Lots.

Kinda like a Jakks unit but bigger.

Everyone on RGVAC hated them until they found out Clay Cowgill (or whatever) did the PCB and then all of the sudden they turned into a "great multi-williams PCB!"

The great flip-flop on opinion was fairly pathetic to witness and all but ended my readership of RGVAC.  :-P
Well in fairness, I think they simply got overexcited about a Clay Cowgill based product they could go out and buy the same day.  Mailing a check, getting no email responses, then having the item arrive a year later (if then) seems to get old for some reason.   >:D

People went from "this thing SUCKS" to "this thing is AWESOME" in the -same- thread once they found out Clay did it.

Behavior like that pushed me further and further towards emulators.  There's no going back.  :D

Well they of course had to accuse him of using MAME first. ;)

Well no WONDER they aren't selling.  It doesn't have enough stickers on it..   [/sarchasm]

Finally saw one of these at our Big Lots today... looked like
bad furniture, like it was put together by someone who
wanted it to fall apart.
Having said that, it was not powered (nor possible to be powered
I bet) but I was curious enough to take a closer look anyway.

And my retinas STILL haven't recovered.

Something about having buttons that look 0.5" in diameter
is really, I dunno... toyish.  Someone mentioned Jakks' games,
but this looks worse to me somehow.  Really doesn't look
like it would stand up to any punishment, and a good play
would knock it all down...

Actually, I left the store with a better feeling... sorta like,
even MY cab looks more pro than THIS...

Hell, my PROTOTYPE looks more pro than this.

So the multi-PCB wouldn't be a good option to slam into a regular empty Midway cab? Say if they fell to 99 bucks on clearance and you had the spare cab sitting around?

It really isn't worth the effort. There are better and more arcade accurate compilations released for consoles and pc.

I think it would be a good alternative though, for $99 - rip out the pcb and junk the rest...

Probably the only thing I would consider would be a portable TV game, kind of like the Jakks controllers.
