Title: Nice Carvings does it again.
Post by: MameMaster! on November 13, 2007, 04:14:08 pm
The beautiful and talented Melissa made me this sign for my Zultan.

It is SO BEAUTIFUL in person...but it's really hard to photograph because she used a pearlized coating to give it a shimmer that looks great!

Now you need to convert it to coin op like that guy in the new issue of GRM.

I think that's one of my favorite carvings she's done, the others are great looking and well done, but somehow carved wood doesn't scream arcade to me.  For something like a Zoltan it's perfect.  As always great craftsmanship, but better than some others because it's the perfect type of project.

It looks like straight out of Bioshock. I love that art deco style.

That's awesome, and you have an excellent conversation piece there.

Mamemaster- That machine is awesome, nice work and thanks for posting about the carving.  :)

bfauska- I agree with you. You have to think of the arcade art more as decor, and not so much a 'wood carving' per say. It's much easier to stomach then.  :)

And much of it definitely looks more like sculpture than carved wood, which is also totally cool.

So far Melissa has tried everything thrown at her......so if you have a project in mind....give it a shot. I wasn't 100% sure that she could pull this off because of all of the detail....but she did it and exceeded my expectations.

Forgive me for being a total NOOB about these things, but basically what does the machine do ? Just scare you with the skull in the "magic" ball ?

The machine looks sweat, even though I'm not into those kind of arcade machines....

The original Zoltan just lit up, animated a bit, spoke out a generic phrase and dispensed a little rectangular card with a fortune on it.

ditto on this one....without the card. Check youtube...there are a lot of zultan videos out there...here's one of them:
