The kids were playing NBA Hangtime today and the monitor fritzed out. I wasn't there, but they say it made a crackly noise then blacked out. They turned it off immediately. They also said they did not smell smoke or anything. I tried to fire it up when I got home to no avail. You can here the power "click" when you power it up, but no screen.
Any ideas, suggestions or comments? Is it generally worth it to have them (monitors) serviced?
Thanks,
Xam

Whoops...sorry Ken...showing my ignorance of monitors.
Its a Happ's Pro Vision. These are the numbers from the owners manual.
MTG-2902SN
29" :49-6157-VP2
I'm not trying to ask for a diag over the internet...I know how difficult that can be...just wondering if the symptoms sounded familiar and if anyone with experience thinks it may be worth pursing repair.
Let me know if you need more info.

After speaking with someone at work (he has some working knowledge of monitors), I was told it sounds like it may be the flyback transformer. I went to the Happ website looking for a cost on a replacement part. Apparently, they (Happ) do not sell my monitor anymore...and very few replacement parts for it.
Does anyone know where I may be able to procure said transformer?
Looking through the owners manual, I found a part called "flyback transformer" would this be the same thing?
Thanks,
Xam

that sounds oddly familiar, i have..... had a happ and had the same thing happen, check this thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=71559.0 hopefully you are luckier than i was, but it is something to maybe check out.
-i have all the parts for it still, their practically brand new!! :hissy: and im pretty sure its the same model. i'll check when i get home from work.

Ouch! I hope that is not the case here. I'm probably going to take it out of the cab today.
From what the kids say, I think I am a bit more fortunate. I hope so...cuz I only have about 50 hours on it also.
Those pics may give me nightmares... :hissy:

how old is this monitor?
-
hey, i just confirmed my model #. and it is the exact same one!
mine is a little over a year old, but had less than 50 hours on it. (basically i hooked it up, played it straight for about a month or 2, and then WHAM, no more) after it went out about 9 months ago i set it aside to work on something else. when i finally got a chance to troubleshoot it and post here it was already too late to do anything. but your probably asking how old Xam's right?

how old is this monitor?
Little over 2 years...but only running for a few months. I had it about a year and 3 months before finally getting it hooked up.
I removed the monitor from the cab tonight. I plugged it in and there was a small spark and a crackling sound (about 1-3 secs long) exactly as my boys described.
I unplugged and the plugged it in again...no spark or crackle this time.
I will post pics and show where it appeared the spark came from.
Oh yeah! Mine at least appears to be intact...not near the damage draginit had.

good luck, i hope your right! however, and not to discourage or say your problem is like mine, but everything your describing is sounding the same...i did not notice the crack on mine right away cuz its was hidden behind the large plastic with copper coil. the only reason i found it is cuz i noticed the neck board seemed waaay too close to the back of the chassis (almost touching) and a little lower than normal. but in the end im sure mine just got beat up during shipping. so if your tube is good and you need any parts, mine should be an exact match. let me know
-if not, lets go after happ!! :laugh2:
-
:laugh2: - Yes....Happ is not on my "good" list right now.
I may take you up on the parts....problem is, I don't know what parts I may need. I am trying to find someone that knows how to repair crt's. There is a guy at my old job that knows, but he does not have the tools anymore.
Anyway...can you PM me and let me know what you have and how much you want for the parts?

Great news!
My monitor is now working again! A huge kudos to member modessitt! He gave me an outstanding price, quick service, and really went above and beyond what I expected.
Seems an inductor went out and caused all kinds of problems.
Thanks mod!
