Title: ...More Projects
Post by: FrizzleFried on November 09, 2007, 03:48:16 pm
I just picked up a couple MORE projects.   The game room is now officially full + I have an extra cab.

First...Asteroids.  It plays BEAUTIFULLY.  The monitor appears to have ZERO burn in.  The cabinet is in great condition structurally,  however it's not the most beautiful of cabs.  The right side-art is probably around 6.5/10 condition while the left side is at best 2/10...I am guessing this was an end-cab.   The control panel is rusted pretty good too.  There are cig burns in all the buttons and on the two volcano bezels.   I just ordered a new full overlay,  two new volcano bezels,  and 5 new buttons...this cab made it in to the game room though.  I already replaced the plexi (and a fellow member has graciously offered to print the B&W plexi bezel for one helluva deal!).

Next is the true project of the two.  It's an original Mr. Do! in an a Universal cabinet.  I am having one helluva time finding Universal side art,  so I will likely paint it and put Mr. Do! side art on.  The guy sold it to me playing blind.  The harness is a mess,  so that may be the problem.  The monitor fires up,  but displays blue out of sync (and yes I checked Hsync) mess.  It plays blind but no controls.  The chassis is a Sharp Image SI320 which I find ZERO info on...but it looks damn near brand new (if not brand new)... I really need a new "control panel plexi" as well as the side art if anyone knows of where I can get it.  I also could use a new bezel as this one is pretty damn scratched up.

I got the Asteroids for $175 and the Mr. Do! for $50....

Everyone needs at least one vector.  More if they can be had.

After I see the machine, I don't know if you will be satisfied with a paper black bezel (knowing the stickler that you are). ;)

Personally, I think you should look into getting a stencil made by one of the vinyl guys. That would be a pretty simple one it appears, and spraypainted plexi would look SUPER sweet and original.

I already paid $19 for a clear plexi piece... Arcadeshop has a plexi for $45.00,  but damn,  that is a lot to be spending PLUS it increases shipping considerably.  I am hoping the black paper bezel will do.  I plan on gluing it to a piece of cardboard and cutting both out so it stays straight.  I dunno...it actually doesn't look bad WITHOUT the black border...

I'd sandwich it between plexi myself.

If I have the room I will.  The plexi bought was 1/4" thick as is the original.  I may be able to get a 1/8" piece behind it...do they even make 1/16" thick plexi?   I'll have to see how it goes.

Get 2 pieces of 1/8". And yes, I believe you can get thinner plexi.

I have some plexi that is 3/32. I'm using it for doubled up plexi marquee holders.

Very nice find, never been into the more "classic" games but the more I spend time here the more I have started to appreciate classic games and will probably look for one at some point, good luck with the restoration.  ;D

And as a side note, it really makes you wonder who these tit's are that go around burning cig's into cab's and marking the bezel glass, personaly I never did this in all my year's of gaming  ::)

Regards.

The burns are behind the buttons...so smokers would come up to the cabinet and set their cig on the CP to play the game.  Marking up the glass...that is just an asshat thing to do.

I've seen asian players do that. I though it was a ---meecrob--- bag thing to do.
