Hello everyone,
I know this has been probably asked/answered many time, but I couldn't find a precise answer to my question...
I'm using a 7-button layout.
How should I connect it to the encoder (keywiz)?
This is my layout:
## A B C
## D E F
## G
Should I connect 2 buttons together (ex : A = G)?
Should I connect them to 7 separate inputs on the encoder?
Same question for pinball buttons?
I have 2 pinball buttons on each side (flipper + nudge).
I guess they are connected to existing button on the CP. what is connected to what?
Thanks...
And sorry for being lazy :dizzy:

"Should I connect them to 7 separate inputs on the encoder?"
I'm in the process of planning out my 7 button setup and this is the method I was considering. Hope someone with experience can let us know how it works. ;D

Honestly, either way will work fine, but if you're short on space, you can share inputs. You may want to have 7 separate inputs if you're emulating any consoles that have full gamepads full of buttons (e.g. SNES has 6 buttons, a start and a select = 8 buttons). Otherwise, yeah, make A and G one input.
The flipper buttons I'd share with main inputs though - since you can't really do much else with them anyhow.

I'll right DaveMMR,
thanks a lot.
I think I'm gonna share the inputs for now.
But I'll plan to have 2 separate wires.
So If I want to connect A/G to separate output, It will be only a matter of opening the cp box and reconnect the write to the right encoder input.

I prefer this layout myself.
4 5 6
1 2 3
4
That puts the main buttons on the bottom row for classic games.
One of my pet peeves is reaching over controls to use other controls.
I hate having my hand resting on buttons to use other buttons.

Having played mostly fighters, I never rest my hand on buttons.
To throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing. I prefer eight buttons because of the PS2 and Xbox. 4 shouldier buttons are a must!

well... if you plan to play the more recent Mortal Kombat games like UMK3 then you'll need a run button. so the 7th button couldnt be the same as 4 because that's a punch button..

I wired your button "G" to a separate, 7th input to be used as a thumb button for games like Defender, Smash TV and Rescue.

Smash TV doesn't need a Thumb Button. Total Carnage does. ;)

Ok,
then is the top row is button 123 or 456???

I'm wiring my ledwiz and keywiz right now and could use that info to connect in the right order right away...
Thanks.

Again matter of preference. I put my main buttons on the top row mainly because I got a couple of people telling me they weren't comfortable with the main action buttons being on the bottom row. Like so:
123
456
The hand naturally cups over the bottom row, so there's never been any "accidental hitting" of the wrong button.

All right, Thanks a lot for that quick answer,
just had time to see what the different action buttons do in MK3.
So for the first try, I'll try what you have.
123
456
7
If I donc get used to the main buttons being on top, I'll swap the first and bottom row.
Thanks again...
Man I love this forum!!
