Not sure what sort of Jukebox you were planning to make ? vinyl or mp3 etc

I have some plans for a Replica 1962 jukebox at www.mob-jukeboxes.com

I think he was talking about the physical design of the jukebox.  Almost all of them use windows and one of the jukebox frontends available.

There are wall mountable small ones that send the sound to your stereo.
You could hack up an old jukebox or antique radio to fit a touchscreen.
You could build your own behemoth that has 12 speakers and blows the clothing off women, probably not good for a 12 year old.

Go for the touchscreen, there is a thread in the jukebox forum that shows the location of a $150 touchscreen.

I agree with green giant the touchscreen is the way to go, it adds a more professional feel to the jukebox IMHO.

Multijuke have a fine Kidmode to keep it simple, and only require minimum 4 buttons to operate (Up, Down, Enter and Back) buttons to use. You might add a 5'Th button to carry a find.

MultiJuke exists to Linux as well Windows..

But, Touchscreen or not, you should test jukebox software out first, since these software have very deficient styles and might require deficient design to fit it presently. Specific, if itsshould operate by kids.

Building a Jukebox should been pretty much the same basic things like Arcades, but just have deficient design. But depend, which type of cabinet, you want to use and size of it.

Otherwice I have not build a real jukebox my self, and use my arcade machine to that, so I cant heap where you should get started.

I think some of you are mistaken about something:

When I read "year 12 project", I got the impression that the poster is referring to a project for school - not something for a twelve year old. If such is the case, it won't necessarily be important to worry about a kid friendly interface.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130108395541 - if you're interested in a touchscreen, this is the $150 deal thats been mentioned here.

ahh, sorry about the year.

I remember mameroom a least have a very nice jukebox cabinet plans about it:
http://www.mameroom.com/product_VirtualJukebox.asp

You can of course change the controls to suit the software you finally choised. This have a breif list of software:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Jukebox_Software

You can of course not need to use all controls shown here, and just alter it for use with your choise software, which depend, which type of collection you have, singles, albums?

For software I personly recommered DWJukebox, SkJukebox, MultiJuke (button controls) and of course Freebox (touchscreen).

In my own software, MultiJuke, you do not need to use kidmode, so you can use all controls, or maybe even use keypad controls for use with Jukebox GUI (pretty simular to SkJukebox).

You can of course checkout others than these named software, example VMJ, Unclet Jukebox, SilverJuke and others.

I still think you should go for a touchscreen interface. What subject is this for? If it is for ICT i can supply you with the visual basic source code to Simple Juke that i made and you can tweak that to give yourself a basic jukebox inface that you will have the source code for.

You could just do something simply and intergrate a jukebox front end into it .

Like mine :

and these as contols

its all relative to how you want it to look?

If you go to the ready make kit for the mameroom jukebox you can download the full assembly manual.  With this info and the size of the cab you can pretty well make up your own plans for that jukebox.   The same goes for all of the mameroom assembly manuals for their game cabs.
