Hi All,
My journey that started in June/July is now complete and I have finished my MAME cab! Big, BIG Thanks to everyone that gave me help and advice - particularly Bucks
I will whack some pictures up later, just trying to finish off my software config.
I am using the latest MaLa build and have a few Q's...
1) Can I have a 'favourites' game list - scrolling through 6500 roms is a pain in the ass!
2) I tried to add another emulator to MaLa - Frets On Fire (Like Guitar Hero), but it doesnt really work - has anyone done this?
3) Do any pinball emulators launch from within MaLa - I managed to get a combo of Visual Pinball and PinMame working with Maximus Arcade, but cannot figure it out in MaLa!
4) Lastly, how do I stop the trackball from 'accelerating'? I'm not sure if this is right, but the fast I move the ball, the faster the action on screen - e.g. in Dunk Shot (one of my fave games!) if I spin the trackball like in the old days, the players move around at 100 miles an hour, so I have to gently roll the ball around which moves the players slower. Not really the spirit of the game!
I've tried changing the analogue sensitivity in MAME (X and Y now down to 25% from 75%), but it still feels odd.... is there a way around this?
Also, a small LedWiz issue:
1) Everything works fine - as I scroll through the games, the different buttons light, they flash on start and exit of MaLa etc -but I cannot get the random attract mode when the screensaver comes on.
I tested the cab with a really old PC and managed to get it working then and this is the same software so a bit confused! Have everything ticked that should be and have the default LWA files in the LWA folder - any ideas?
Think thats it for now!
Thanks again, Paul

hi paul
id like to see the answers to some of these too.
can offer a little help hopefuly, have you looked at unclet's mala setup walkthrough , im trying to find a link to it but i got it here or on the mala pages im sure. it mentions setting up pinball and other emulators, i think the category list(games listed by type) is mentioned there too(not sure about a favourites list). that and a few questions in the software forum have got me going with mala
EDIT mala main page click on help, its under 'how to' on the right

Doh! Didnt see that last night :-\
Will look now - thanks for the pointer!

Got it working - kinda!
I made a new emu in MaLa and pointed it to the vpinball.exe file as instructed (and the ROM path).
I have the right ROMs in the right places - when I launch a table within MaLa, just VPinball editor loads, then I have to manually find the table, and then click 'Play Table' - which it then all loads ok.
Isnt the idea to choose a table from MaLa and have it all launch for you?
Thanks for any help!

i'd repost this in the software forum fella, you'll get a better response there

1) I think there is a tab called "Game Lists" in the MALA option's window. If you go to that tab, then you can select an emulator you already have defined and then add game lists (ie: Favorites, Racing games, etc...) to that emulator. After adding game lists to my emulator, then I simply scroll through all the games in the emulator and add them one-by-one to the game list I want. I believe I highlight the game in the emulator and then right-click my mouse to open the little popup-window and then request it to eb added into the specific game list. If you do not want to add them one-by-one, then I believe there is a way to select many games at a time and move them into the game list as well by selecting the "Edit Game list" button located within the "Game List" tab.
2) "Frets on Fire" sounds like something my kids might like. I need to look into this, but it will not be anytime soon, since I am working on another project at the moment and need to give the garage space back to my wife soon :P Anyway, if "Frets on Fire" can be started manually at the command line (ie: in a command window) by typing the required text at a prompt, then MALA should be able to start it for you.
(EDIT)
I downloaded the 1.2.451 version but get the same error described here when I start it up:

3) For Visual Pinball, the "Command Line" field defined in MALA should look like the following:
-play -"%path%\%rom%.%ext%"
Note: The above text can be found in MALA by clicking the "..." button next to the "Command Line" field and then selecting "Emulator Presets/Pinball/Visual Pinball"
Are you using the "-play" option in your configuration? ALso, do you have the dash(-) right before the full path (shown above)?
It has been a long time since I played around with Visual Pinball, but I "believe" if there are problems loading the table, then it might kick you into the Visual Pinball editor instead of starting the game right up. You might try to see if the table can be played outside of MALA just to confirm it works properly (if you have not already done this).

As for the issue with the screensaver, this is a known mala issue. There have been many bugs with the screensaver that are being worked on. Consider yourself lucky. I have the ledwiz and I can't even run the screensaver with mala, it doesn't work at all.

Fab! Got it all working - the path was missing both the -play and the - before the full path.
Also found game lists in MaLa - so thats going to be cool...
Feels much better now - not so much a chore having to do everything - thanks guys!
