Title: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback
Post by: saint on November 05, 2007, 10:47:23 pm
Under each user's profile is a new Trade Count:  (x) line, with the x being a linkable number. You can click that and leave each other good/neutral/bad feedback for transactions, similar to ebay feedback. If it gets abused it gets yanked :) Please test and let me know how it works. Should be restricted to established members only.

Added feedback already.

Are we keeping the good traders/bad traders lists or getting rid of them?

This is a helpful feature.  Good call.

Keeping for now, probably no reason to get rid of them. I'd like to see how this mod goes for a while at least.

Added feedback already.

Is it possible for the trader info to only show up for posts in the bst forum and pms? Just curious, as I find it kind of distracting in all the other forums.

What's the process for feedback to reviewed before being displayed?  If something is accepted/rejected will the user making the comments be notified?  Do the mods approve them before they are displayed?  Will the user being commented upon have a chance to make any explanations for the feedback left?

Just curious.  I think it's a great feature.

Added a couple of trade counts for people.  The system says it needs to be approved before being added to the users profile.   Is this a during testing procedure of will it be standard procedure?

Gah, I don't want to review all that. Think I need to turn on auto-approval. Looking.

OK, approved pending trader ratings, and I think I have it automatic now. Some of the trader ratings were weird in that the title of the rating had a bad link, but the details of the trade were OK. Not sure what's happening there.

Definitely a good feature... I'm a bit concerned that without some sort of oversight, though, that it's going to become a simple Reputation feature instead.  I'd hate to see people getting negged every time someone is in a crappy mood.

Yeah, if it heads that way I'll kill it. It's why I didn't implement karma here either. I can also remove feedbacks left if they're bogus, and unlike ebay I'm not hard to get ahold of :)

HooPZ - please check the feedback you left. At least one of them it looks like you meant to send a negative but the user has a positive from you. Either you mis-left it or it's not working right.

An Error Has Occurred!
Your rating will not appear in the user's trader profile to others until it is approved.

Saw that.  Is there a way that we can see either an individual's feedback item by item, feedback left for us, or anything that we left for anyone else?

I am fairly positive that I selected negative feedback for someone.  I am going to redo it just in case.

EDIT:  Nope, I screwed it up.  Can someone edit that out please?

If you go into the user's profile and view their feedback it is all listed out nicely.

Bummer. Also it doesn't show you neg scores, you have to actually open up their feedback to see that. I'll keep an eye out for updates or another alternative.

Is it supposed to snow neg scores?  It's a trade count, not a trade rating.

Post by: saint on November 06, 2007, 11:36:06 am
Well it makes it easier if it adds them, or had a + and - count showing for at-a-glance views. It might be easy to mistake someone with a (1) next to their name as having positive feedback, even though that (1) is indicating a negative when you open it to look.

If someone had more bad than good trades, I'd like to see the number next to their name have a - next to it. Either way though, it's workable until something else comes along :)

By the way, you bastard, you left me a negative feedback!   >:D
Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback
Post by: ChadTower on November 06, 2007, 11:39:38 am

I can see it being misleading to a person accustomed to an ebay-like feedback rating.  It does provide the feedback ratio in the profile, of course, but it depends on whether or not the reader is paying attention.  The engine is there, though, so I bet if someone really wanted a rating in that left section someone could mod the plugin so that it's pulling ratio instead of count for display in each post.

If you want to remind people to leave you feedback, go thru your pm's and leave THEM feeback. They will see your feedback and then hopefully return the favor.
Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback

It's already documented in the good traders list thread but people are too lazy to do the right thing and actually add it to the forum for the new mod. I mean come on, add a great mod to the board and then do nothing to reward old users who have set a good example and good record in the past.

It's just seems like common sense that when the mod was added that this information from that thread would just HAVE to be added. Why make all that time in good deals be wasted and not accounted for? :dunno

Well, my perspective is that it'd be great if people did put in retro-active feedback, but I am not personally going to do it. For one thing, I'd have to either hack the database to put it in under everyone's name, or get their passwords and reassign their passwords so I could leave the feedback as them. There's no easy way to have one person fill in the database of everyone's trades.

It does seem awfully stupid that tommy is complaining that no one will do the work to retroactively fill his feedback when he also will not do the work to do the same for all of those people.
Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback
Post by: tommy on November 08, 2007, 11:22:24 am
A lot of the people don't even come to the forum regularly anymore and there is no need to do it all again since it's already there and just needs to be copied over. All i wanted was already done deals by me and others to be included  and recognised by this mod but now i see it's too difficult.
Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback
Post by: ChadTower on November 08, 2007, 11:29:33 am

It is not too difficult.  You just won't do it.
Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback
Post by: shardian on November 08, 2007, 11:32:43 am
I see that what Tommy is getting at is that he has apparently done significant business with people who are no longer active members. He wants the feedback for those people. Unfortunately all you can do in this case is go ahead and give them feedback, and maybe they will show back up once they see the new pm.

I've been slowly but surely going thru 15 pages of pm's and leaving feedback to those I've dealt with. I've got return feedback from quite a few.

I thought it could have been as simple as just adding a number to the name of each user based off of the good traders list thread feedback and then linking to it when clicked. No big deal.

Title: Re: Added Trader mod to forum - like ebay feedback

you also have to look at the good sellers thread and see that the transactions are vague. Most of the just say "Add <namehere> as good trader" and there is no mention of for what or why. So expecting someone to go through that and add to scores is not really doable.

I went through it and tried to give credit to anyone I dealt with. Unfortunately there were names that I couldn't remember what it was I bought from them or sold them so I couldn't fairly leave feedback for them, even though I know they were a good trader. There were others who were not current active members, but I still left feedback if I remembered what it was, just in case they ever come back.

This doesn't mean that I expect them to remember and give me feedback based on the fact that they got it. I would rather them remember what it was for so that way the feedback is more honest.

The only problem with feedback systems is the fact that sellers will be so demanding about getting feedback "for their reputation", that they will turn to not trusting their customers, and that they will hold the customers feedback hostage, until they receive good feedback. Just like what sellers do at e-bay.

The purpose of the feedback lets everyone know who is honest and great to deal with. It isn't something that is to be expected during a transaction, but something done out of courtesy.

I would hope, since this is a somewhat closed system, we would be able to avoid the eBay feedback trap...

I just left a feedback and after cramming everything I wanted to say into one sentence in the short comment section I looked at the review page for the person to find that the sentence is cut off.  Viewing the detail doesn't expand that section either.  So... two questions:

1. Is  there a way to edit the feedback that we give?
2. Should/can the number of words in the "Short Comment" section be limited so that they all fit on the summary screen?

Feedback should be somehow restricted to people who actually did business with the user. I almost left a bad feedback to another user just for the fun of it reguarding a post i didn't like in a thread.  ;D

Easy solution to that - watch your own feedback.  People who abuse the system can lose the ability to use it, so if someone tools your feedback needlessly, report it to the mods.

Let's say I look at your feedback and notice that you are accused of being a bad trader by some character calling himself shmokes, it would be nice to see if it's shmokes who might be the bad-guy and just gives out negs for no reason.

In B/S/T on 12/14/2007, two users were trying to agree on a deal.  The user attempting to buy something left negative feedback for the seller after it appeared that the seller reneged on the deal.

Apparently, the seller then left the prospective buyer negative feedback in retaliation.  Are the mods "allowed" to review and adjust ratings if requested?

Based upon what I read, I think so.  I would suggest contacting the two and seeing if they can resolve this.  Or at least, ask the prospective buyer what his opinion is.

Thanks.   :)

Nuked feedback left from both sides -- no actual transaction appears to have taken place. Think that's the line I'll use until a better idea comes along. Until a transaction takes place (or is attempted if one side screws the other) then it's not really trader feedback, it's just an argument. There are other ways to deal with someone who is mucking things up... :)
