Title: list of vertical games needed
Post by: Brax on May 07, 2003, 04:38:14 pm
I know there's a way, I'm just not real strong on the software end of things.....

I was wondering if I could get a list of all the vertical 4 way (or 2 way) games that are supported in Mame.

I'm considering building a cheap cabinet for work. 4 way joystick, vertical monitor, 2 buttons, maybe using a keyboard hack.... I'd like to see if there's enough games available using those restrictions. I suspect I'll have a slow computer with a smaller monitor, that's why I wanted to go vertical and stick to the older games.

Check out this site - it's got a zip file of vertical mame games.

http://www.geocities.com/thepinnyparlour/download.htm

But, it doesn't tell you which games are 2-way or 4-way.

Brax-

Here's a spreadsheet with the info you need. I can't remember what version games this is based on, maybe .59?  What I did is use a program (ROMorg?) to extract the data into a spreadsheet. Then I just sort by orientation/controls/year.  I removed the Horizontals and the dial and trackball controlled games.  I don't want to remove anymore of the controls, because the information about the controls is notoriously wrong....

Hope this helps.

PS. The file below has a .png extension....you will need to rename it to .xls to read it.  If you prefer, PM me and I will get it to you another way....

You could get that handy program called SortInfo and export the list into excel, just like JLR2000 did - only with the latest info.  Excel pretty much rocks when it comes to sorting raw data by fields/columns/rows/etc.  That's how I made my custom game launcher lists (vertical 4-way, fighter, trackball, spinner, etc).

here is the link, though i'm not sure if this is the official homepage:

Frosty's right, but I didn't use SortInfo, I used ROMorg.exe...you can find it here:

Not sure why I went this route, it was awhile ago......but I just used it to extract the game info, then imported it into excel and used that to do all the sort stuff like Frostillicus said.....

Verticle 4-ways, hmm, most of the classics, Mr. Do, pacman, donkey kong.  I'd go with 8-ways too, that would cover all your vertical shooters like 1943 and do don pachi.

Here. I already did this a while back. I checked them all myself, due to all the misinformation in sort info. This is good as of two Mame versions ago. This is Originals only, (with nrallyv added), with all games with non-working sound, or other major problems removed (also removed Crazy Kong and a couple  other crap "original" clones). So here it is, 4-way and 2-way vertical master list.
