Hi all,
I wanted to see what you guys thought of the colors I was choosing for my joysticks and button colors for my quad unit against the blue lightning background.
My overall theme has a blue lightning background and I wanted the control panel to match. However, I would like the 4 players to have different colors. I wasn't sure it was going to match but when you see it next to the marquee, it actually matches quite nicely. What do you guys think?
One other thing, the red ball top 4-way joystick will probably be replaced with a Slikstik multicolored glowing top. I am also having the trackball glow multicolored as well.
Note: Before people "flame" my artwork... It was a quick mock up that I made in Photoshop. The real blue lightning background will be done by mamemarquees.com. I admit, I have not mastered the blue lightning effect yet and it looks terrible with the boxes around the buttons. :-[ However, I created it simply to contrast the buttons to see how it would look. So no flames! I just want opinions on the button and joystick color contrasts. Does it go well with blue lightning and the marquee?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Hello DeLuSioNal29,
I'm not a big fan of too many colors, but if you want different colors here're my thoughts...
- button color matches the start button : great!
But I would reorder the top button to match the player config
So in this order... P3 (green), P1 (blue), P2(red), P4(yellow)
Else, P3 will have trouble to access its start button and will be in the way of P1 and P2.
- button color matches the joystick : great!
- Admin button purple? : no...too many colors :o
If you want a different color, I recommend black or translucent white or blue.
Something more discrete...

Yes, I originally had it that way but changed my mind at the last minute. I thought I was weird in thinking it should go "out of order" so that it is closer to the player. It actually makes more sense now that I think of it to have it closer to the player so that if they are playing X-Men or Ninja Turtles with 4 players, if they need to add more credits in the heat of the moment then can do so easily without having to reach across. Thanks for the great input.

Yes, I kind of rushed it at the end so just threw them in. I was thinking the top four white and the middle one black. I was also thinking about making the fire buttons white that are next to the 4-way instead of black.

I uploaded a newer version. No more purple buttons on top. Changed them to white and left the ones by the 4 way black.
The trackball will glow and cycle through all of the colors slowly. The 4 way will be a SlikStik glowing ball top which will also cycle through colors. The Spinner is a nickel color BYOAC token design.
I also cleaned up the boxy looking outlines of the joystick buttons and made them more contoured.

Hello DeLuSioNal29 ,
1. the background color...
The CP overlay seems a bot more purple than the marquee.
Either colors will be fine, just make sure they're the same.
Personally, I prefer the blue from the marquee and video
(which is a really nice feature... I'll have to add this to my todo list ;))
2. 2 joystick for P1 and P2.
Real nice feature :applaud:
3. P1 4-way
I would keep the same color as the P1 8-way.
Same for the buttons.
Also, it seems that you put 2 buttons on both side of the 4-ways?
I guess this is for right and left handed? (or is it for the mouse?)
If it's for the right/left, I would only keep the ones on the right,
since this is what you have for all other joysticks...
Everything else seems under controls.
Cheers

Hey DeLuSioNal29,
I like your control panel layout but what really interested me was the intro video you put together. Just curious what you were using (program wise) to do achieve that kind of effect? I was quite impressed by it. Looks good... build away!!!
