Title: One more question - blurry monitor?
Post by: Lilwolf on November 04, 2007, 06:39:31 am
Ok I was going to buy a d9202 thats really blurry.  And of course the answer will probably increase the price of the tube (because he's from these boards also :) )...

Anyway, the guy he bought it off said he replaced the boards on the monitor and it was still blurry...  But I didn't think the tube could be bad  (unless cracked or something).

Is this possible?  Likely?  Or both boards just needs some new pots?

Also, where is a good place to get new tubes?  Or just not worth it?

Thanks!

There's a chance the convergence rings on the yoke could be off, which are notoriously hard to re-adjust (not worth it at all)

I wouldn't reccomend a D9200 series monitor to anyone.
They are plagued with known issues.

Not worth it even if the price is right?  Or might not be the problem at all and might not fix anything?

I'm in need of a cheap monitor and have the time to try and fix it.... I just don't know if its something thats fixable (by those who never tried).

How involved is it?
Chance of success?
Is there online documentation out there that would help me?  Involve specific tools?

And part of the appeal to this monitor is that its the only 27" in my area I've seen in a long time.  And I'm not supposed to be spending a lot of cash right now (so new is out).

Thanks again

Shameless bump.

Anyone ever do a convergence ring adjustment?  Would this make everything blurry?  Is it fixable (by a navice?)

I'm still considering purchasing the monitor... but want to know if the problems are beyond what anyone should ever do.

Thanks again

I've done purity rings...swapped a tube.  It's a ---smurfette--- for sure.  2 hours of fiddling with it and I gave up at about 90-95% right.  Getting it 100% right is just about impossible I figure.  You can still see the red is slightly out of whack at the bottom of the vertical monitor...oh well.

I think what people are trying to tell you is that the monitor CHASSIS itself is plagued with issues.

I'm just doing convergence for the first time on a Neotec 26" and it is proving not that bad.

It's taking me a lot more than 2 hours though    :banghead:

Needs a lot of research & thought on how the pairs of multi-pole magnet rings work.  After that it makes a bit more sense.  Otherwise your convergence adjustments will be little more than guesswork.

Most monitor yokes have three pairs of purity rings separated by slight gaps.  Each pair is adjusted together to control a magnetic field.  Each mag field influences the RGB beams in diferent ways.  The combined mag field from all the paired rings is your final CRT colour adjustment.

You need to understand the paired mutli-pole magnet rings aspect before diving in and fiddling.  It does not work like pots, eg "this ring for red".  I found that it made more sense after researching the theory a bit more first.

You also need some time and lots n lots of patience.  I've nearly given up more times than I can count, but instead I walked away to take a break and came back later. Yeah, needs lots of patience :P

Try reading this wonderful CRT FAQ, especially

did you try adjusting the focus?
