Title: Mapping Rotary to Scroll wheel
Post by: genesim on November 03, 2007, 12:03:18 pm
Is there anyway for Windows to recognize the rotary as strictly a scroll wheel?

Or better yet, the scroll wheel as strictly keyboard commands.  Like(for example) roll up is g roll down is h???

I have trouble mapping scroll wheel commands to my arcade panel that have games that only adhere to scroll wheels.

Any information would be appreciated.

I think the problem is that your question is not as clear as you think it is.
Are you asking if you can bind your rotary joysticks to appear as a scroll wheel to Windows?

Your second sentence seems like you are asking if you can make the scroll wheel send keypress commands.
You can do that in the control panel for most name brand mice.

I haven't ever seen a game that wouldn't let you change the scroll wheel to something else, so I can't help you there.

Actually I did word that bad.  I guess what I meant was can the keyboard presses be the scroll wheel??

I don't care how it is done, I just want to be able to get my Rotary arcade stick to be regonized as the scroll wheel.
thx in advance

I'll bump one more time, because I gotta believe there are others who had this problem.

Scroll wheel is an integral part of newer games..but also can be a good tool for many functions.

Running AutoHotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) with a pretty small script should handle that for you (catching a keypress and sending a WheelUp or WheelDown event).  I've never actually used it, but a few minutes trawling their forum came up with something almost similar (http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/topic10421.html) that should get you pointed in the right direction.

As an aside, and with respect, perhaps you'd get more assistance if you weren't rude to people so often.  There I've said it.

I hope the above advice helps.

You mean disagree?

Rude is what you just did by criticizing me in public rather then stating your problem with me in a pm.

But thanks for the help anyway....but next time, if you feel the need to reprimand me, save the advice.   I don't need it that bad.   I would rather find my information from a different person.

Man looking at your link, those same people were just as rude for this guy asking a simple question....and there was no help to boot!   No wonder people think I am rude, look what kind of behavior I am measured up against!
