This may be old news, or possibly no one will care, but Act-Labs has there Playstation 1, N64 and Dreamcast non force-feedback racing wheels on clearance for $9.99 if anyone is interested. I own the force-feedback version of this wheel and it is an excellent, very well built system.

Try this

Does anybody know if having a PS1 to USB adapter will work? It seems that the Act Labs is using some special controls, because normally PS1 controlers work with the PS2. The site specifically says that it's not compatable.

You can buy the connector through them for the pc. However it will cost 49.95. So 60 bucks total. That is still not a bad price though.

would be nice for my dreamcast plans but the shipping is more than the wheel.

Went for one of these with adapters so it can be used on N64, PS and DC. Got here in 2 days UPS express. It is really a substantial wheel and pedals so I can understand the $17 shipping (Heavy!). Still looks like a good buy considering the quality of the Racing System.
Just bought it to play around with on a PS and got the other adapters just in case.
US shipments are shipped via the US and CDN are shipped via Canada so the customs and duty thing is avoided.
This also gets around the extra charge that UPS places on shipments from the US to Canada. I think they call it brokerage but more like highway robbery. Any Canadians who have dealt with them are familiar with this item.

BobA:
I was just wondering....I'm looking for a wheel to hack for a dedicated MAME Driving cab. I'd want to remove the wheel and shifter and mount them on my own CP. How does the ACT LABS wheel look for this task? Are there screws around the wheel, or is everything "molded" together?
I have a PS MadCatz wheel that I can open up and mount on a CP, but I have to say this ACT LABS wheel with it's brown leather like look and silver would look much better than the Grey and Black PS-like look of the MadCatz I have. And for $27 (wheel +shipping) it's worth it for the better looking wheel. Any thought or input you have (since you have one physically to look at) would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks!

The assembly looks like it is made with maintenance in mind. The metal bottom plate is held on by alot of screws. I think the wheel and shifter paddles are removeable because Act Labs sells replacement parts for these items so they are field replaceable. The wheel has a great feel to it. The RS classic pedals are heavier then any Mad Catz I have seen and seem to have good movement. If you want to look at some of the bits look at the PARTS section of the Act Labs site and you can see some of the older RS system parts for sale.

BobA-
Thanks for the great info! Just placed my order! Funny, in my "testing" of the Madcatz wheel/pedals, I did already hear a "crack" when I stepped too hard on the gas pedal....
Looking forward to getting this and checking it out...
Thanks again for your help.

Am I missing something? I just don't see the connecter on their site. If ya got the link flaunt it!

I bought the Playstation version. I have a Playstation->USB adapter I bought for $14.......
-
Hm.. do you have a PS2? Could you try plugging your wheel in through USB? I've found that most USB PC wheels work this way with GT3, but am curious.
Buying one and some carts in the morning regardless, just don't have a CC# on me :(.. maybe I can PayPal it :P
-
If anyone figures out if you can use it with a PS->USB converter please let me know. I would like to get one for crazy taxi (pc) and such games. Would be REALLY SWEET to get a good force feedback for less then 40 bucks!

Hm.. do you have a PS2?
No, I have just Playstation (1). The MadCatz Playstation wheel I have works great with the PSX->USB converter. I plug it into the usb of the PC in my upright cab and I've been very happy with the results....which is why I am converting a 19" cab to a dedicated driving cab with these wheels/shifter built into the CP.

The RS wheel for sale are NOT FORCE FEEDBACK. They are an older model before RS Force.

Yeah.. I noticed that, too.. plus crappy e-shift or whatever :'(
I'd rather wait and get some real arcade controls.. probably still come out costing less than their USB'd-out PC package deal :o
-
I may buy a couple of these and convert them to removeable 360-degree wheels.... hmmm... Championship Sprint, anyone?

there is a company on Ebay selling Logitech WingMan Formula GP wheels and pedals for cheap cheap...starting at $1...i got mine for $9.
they work pretty damn good in MAME, and hook up to a USB port.
the seller is: justdeals.com
good stuff maynard!
;D

I guess it's not a huge deal since it is a really good price, but all the items justdeals.com are selling on EBay are refurbished aren't they?

Just got my Act-Labs $9.99 Racing System!
Only have had a chance to open up the box and peek at a few things:
1. Very sturdy, excellent quality.
2. Steering wheel has the soft, leather like quality.
3. Gas and Brake pedals (shafts?) are metal...seems very sturdy.
4. Shift levers on steering column, great for someone like me who is going to take this out of it's enclosure to mount on a CP, one less thing to "remove".
In my 10 minute assessment, all I can say is this looks to be a great deal. Much more sturdy than my Madcatz system. And it will look great on the woodgrain cab I plan to use (brown leather like wheel).
I can understand the $17 shipping, this thing is big and heavy...lots of metal. If you are thinking of getting one of these, it looks great. If I get a chance to plug it in and try it out I will update here to let everyone know.....
Thanks CGRemakes for passing on the word on this!
