Title: 'new' cab, 1973 midway winner. (q for the dutch as well...) pics!!!
Post by: -ief- on November 01, 2007, 12:14:12 pm
so i just started out with all this and got me a 1994 jamma cab to see if i could get mame in there (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=72931.0) and was browsing the net a little when i found this, no idear if it's a nice find, what do you guys think?

it's not 100 % but still looks pretty decent and by the looks of it complete exept for one ic missing on the pcb, perhaps this is standard, perhaps not :)

also a question for the dutch among us, it seems still to be wired for 110 volts BUT has a guilder coin label on the front, would it be logic for the first arcaades to use some sort of 110 volt mains somehow in stead of rebuilding all there forign cabs?

I don't know what it is, but it's a very cool cabinet design. You don't see many like that. At least I don't anyway.

tnx for the comment pmc :)

in fact, i DO know what it is, it's a pong clone, first arcade cab made by midway (as is paddle ball from/for williams)

has to be said that there ain't to much info to be found on it, on klov (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10444) they are listed 3 times with only 1 working example...

dunno if that says anything at all tho  ???

cool of u to think it's a nice cab design, i think it looks ahm...70ties for sure  ;D

i wouldn't even think about maming it ok  8)

am eager to see if it works but my outlet only produces 220 volts for now and even if i had 110 volts... i'm not sure if it would be a good idear to just hook it up and see where the smoke would be comming from.

i might be lucky tho  8)

I've got a 110 volt outlet in my living room if you want to ship her to the middle of the US...

hmmmmz, a realy long extention cord might be a solution...  :blah:

 ;D

nah, a transformer would be the way to go i think...

what would be the smart thing to do anywayz, give her a good clean on the contacts and joints and stuff and just try or let someone (who actualy knows anything about this stuff) take a look at it first?

ok, i know what would be the smart thing to do but on the other hand, if it is broken it prolly won't get much worse then it allready is...

choices, choices  :dunno

It's quite normal..... I think you will find that the transformer you are showing there has dual 115V primary coil windings. This allows it to be easily switched from 115V to 230V.  There is something of a tolerance on this that would allow it to run on 110V.

It is easily altered from one specification to the other by altering the way that the primary coils are connected to the mains, in either series or parallel configuration. The output voltages from the transformer will then be the same (more or less).

Let me explain...

1) If we connect 230v to the coils with them wired in series, each coil will have 115v on it.
2) If we connect 115v to the coils with them wired in parallel, each coil will still have 115v on it.
The output voltages will be the same in both cases.

Not difficult to do! as long as you understand your basic electrics.

Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

Another Dutchie......soon we will assimilate this forum and you all WILL talk Dutch here. Resistance is futile  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Welcome ! And a VERY nice find !  :applaud:
If it doesn't look 70's enough by itself, check out the flyer:
http://www.arcadeflyers.com/flyers_video/midway/29174401.jpg :) Gotta love it !

You seriously contacted midway about it ? I guess most people there weren't even born yet :P
Look the start button is still on the coindoor, just like at the pins :)

I think Foz put you in the right direction. Is there a normal (European) plug on it ?

hi level, cool comments ;)

ahm, there isn't a plug on it any more and the wire is like a 3 wire flatcable, never seen that before.

i think i will unhook everything and messure what output the transformer gives, guess i know then if it's rigged up for 220 or not, prolly is but want to be sure.

and yes, asked midway about it, can allways try i thought, perhaps in some deep and well hidden midwat basement is a pile of old info on the thing (one can hope can't he ;) )

but first, get my mame setup going, i want to play  8)
