Title: Button Sizing and Spacing.
Post by: stace on November 01, 2007, 11:25:51 am
Guys,

I'm trying to sort out my cp design and hope you can help?

I understand that a happ button requires a hole of 1 1/8"  is that correct?

What is the overal width of the button including the 'lip' ?

Thanks
Stace  :)

Most buttons are spaced 1.5" apart, centre to centre.

This is correct.  I personally suggest a fostner bit.  For other hole related questions, don't forget about this thread about hole sizes (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=71031.0).

I've also used a step bit... a little rougher going, but
it gave me a cleaner hole.

From what I've read, most people get away with
just using spade bits too.

I think I saw a set of forstner bits at Big Lots the other day for
$15 or so... don't know how good they are though.

I use forstner bits to drill out the holes and I space them 1-3/8" on center.

Ditto here.

More important than the type of bit you use is making sure that you are not drilling the hole at an angle.
I don't know how many times I've seen a "defective button" that suddenly worked when you let up some pressure on the keeper nut.

I used a spade bit and the point on the spade bit allows you to line up the button exactly.

I purchased my push buttons from ultimarc.  Anyone know the specs on these as far as proper spacing and spade-bit size for drilling?

Thanks!
