Title: Mala help please!
Post by: twitami on October 31, 2007, 05:04:39 pm
Robotron on my Mala-running cabinet is not fullscreen. I have the settings all set correctly. Recently, someone told me to go into the MAME menu when the game is running, and chane the 4x3 setting, exit, then come back in and change again and it will fix the problem. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get to the MAME menus wehn running Mala (the way it usually works is by hitting TAB, but nothing happens). Any help out there?

Thanks SO much!

I love Mala by the way..great program!

try starting the game first, the tab should work then.  Then go to video options.  And Yes, MaLa IS a great program!

You have started Mame by itself instead of using Mala?

EDIT, ADDED:
If when you are in Mame and TAB doesn't bring up the menu, you may have accidently changed the key that brings up the menu to something else.  In the MAME folder there is a subfolder called CFG.  In the CFG folder find the file DEFAULT.CFG.  With Mame not running, rename this file to something else.  Then run Mame again and the TAB key should then bring up the menu.

No, I mean I have started the game (in Mala) and then hit TAB. Not sure how to run MAME by itself...isn't it command line only without a front end?

I think SGT is suggesting that your key assignments in robotron may be off/wrong/different ......so that TAB is not set to menu....

Do the rename file trick he suggested and try that...... or hit Pause and then hit every key on the Kb until the menu comes up .... then reassign the TAB key back in.....

You can still do what I posted in the previous message without running from the command line.   If that doesn't work, you need to run Mame from the command line without using Mala so that you can rule Mala out as being the cause of the problem.  To run Mame from the command line without using Mala:

Code: [Select]
Click Start>Run
Type CMD <ENTER>
C:                                   <if that is the drive where mame is located>
cd \mame                        <if \mame is the path to your mame folder>
mame.exe robotron <ENTER>

hey thanx SGT for that DEFAULT.CFG tip, I did not know that.

Ok, I tried changing the Default File to a new name, in case TAB was reassigned to something else, but still no luck. It is almost as if Mala has a setting to disable any other input or keys from working during MAME. Any chance is does something like that? I can't get in to adjust the controls for any specific games either, which is frustrating.

Thanks for the help all!

It would only take about 30 seconds to determine whether its Mala or not, by running Mame by itself per the instructions in the earlier post.
